ജെ.എസ്.എസ് നേതാവും മുൻ മന്ത്രിയുമായിരുന്ന കെ.ആർ ഗൗരിയമ്മ (102)അന്തരിച്ചു. കടുത്ത അണുബാധയെ തുടർന്നായിരുന്നു അന്ത്യം.
1957ലെ ആദ്യ കമ്മ്യൂണിസ്റ്റ് മന്ത്രി സഭയിൽ അംഗമായിരുന്നു.
1952-53, 1954-56 വർഷങ്ങളിൽ തിരുവിതാംകൂർ-കൊച്ചി നിയമസഭകളിലും ഒന്നു മുതൽ പതിനൊന്നുവരെ എല്ലാ കേരള നിയമസഭകളിലും അംഗമായിരുന്നു. (അഞ്ചാം നിയമസഭ ഒഴികെ).1957,1967,1980,1987 വർഷങ്ങളിൽ കമ്മ്യൂണിസ്റ്റ് മന്ത്രിസഭകളിലും 2001ലെ എ.കെ. ആന്റണി, ഉമ്മൻ ചാണ്ടി മന്ത്രിസഭകളിലും അംഗമായിരുന്നു. 1957, 1960 കേരള നിയമസഭകളിൽ ചേർത്തലയിൽ നിന്നും 1965 മുതൽ 1977 വരെയും 1980 മുതൽ 2006 വരെയും അരൂരിൽ നിന്നും നിയമസഭാംഗമായി തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കപ്പെട്ടു. 2011ൽ മത്സരിച്ചെങ്കിലും പരാജയപ്പെട്ടു.
ചേർത്തലയ്ക്ക് അടുത്തുള്ള അന്ധകാരനഴി എന്ന ഗ്രാമത്തിലാണ് ഗൗരിയമ്മയുടെ ജനനം. കളത്തിപ്പറമ്പിൽ കെ.എ രാമന്റെയും പാർവ്വതിയമ്മയുടെയും മകളായി 1919 ജൂലൈ 14ന് കെ.ആർ ഗൗരി ജനിച്ചു.
എറണാകുളം മഹാരാജാസിൽ നിന്നും ബിരുദവും തിരുവനന്തപുരം ലോ കോളേജിൽ നിന്ന് ബിരുദാനന്തര ബിരുദവും പൂർത്തിയാക്കിയ ഗൗരിയമ്മ സഹോദരന്റെ സ്വാധീനത്തിലാണ് രാഷ്ട്രീയത്തിലേക്ക് ഇറങ്ങുന്നത്. വിദ്യാർത്ഥി രാഷ്ട്രീയത്തിൽ സജീവമായിരുന്ന ഗൗരിയമ്മ 1954ൽ നടന്ന തിരുകൊച്ചി നിയമസഭാ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പിൽ വൻ ഭൂരിപക്ഷത്തോടെ വിജയിച്ചു. ഇ.എം.എസ് മന്ത്രിസഭയിൽ റവന്യൂ, ഭക്ഷ്യം, പൊതുവിതരണം, വാണിജ്യ നികുതി, സാമൂഹ്യ സുരക്ഷ, നിയമം എന്നീ വകുപ്പുകളുടെ ചുമതല വഹിച്ചു. ഇ.കെ. നായനാരുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ ആദ്യ മന്ത്രിസഭയിലും അംഗമായിരുന്നു. പതിനൊന്നാം കേരള നിയമസഭയിലെ ഏറ്റവും പ്രായം കൂടിയ നേതാവു കൂടിയായിരുന്നു ഗൗരിയമ്മ.
ചരിത്ര പ്രസിദ്ധമായ ഭൂപരിഷ്കരണ നിയമം, 1958 ലെ സർക്കാർ ഭൂമി പതിച്ചുകൊടുക്കൽ നിയമം എന്നിവ സഭയിൽ അവതരിപ്പിച്ചതും നടപ്പിലാക്കിയതും 1957ലെ ആദ്യ മന്ത്രിസഭയിൽ റവന്യൂ മന്ത്രി എന്ന നിലയിൽ ഗൗരിയമ്മയായിരുന്നു. ആത്മകഥ (കെ.ആർ. ഗൗരിയമ്മ) എന്നപേരിൽ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ച ആത്മകഥയ്ക്ക് 2011-ലെ കേരള സാഹിത്യ അക്കാദമി പുരസ്കാരം ലഭിച്ചു
1957ൽ അന്നത്തെ കമ്മ്യൂണിസ്റ്റ് മന്ത്രിസഭയിൽ അംഗമായിരുന്ന ടി.വി തോമസും ഗൗരിയമ്മയും വിവാഹിതരായി. 1964 കമ്മ്യൂണിസ്റ്റ് പാർട്ടി രണ്ടായി പിളർന്നപ്പോൾ തോമസ് സിപിഐയിലും ഗൗരിയമ്മ സിപിഎമ്മിലും ചേർന്നു. പാർട്ടിയുടെ പിളർപ്പ് ഇവരുടെ വിവാഹ ബന്ധത്തിലും പ്രതിഫലിച്ചു.
1994ൽ സിപിഎമ്മിൽ നിന്നും ഗൗരിയമ്മ പുറത്തുപോന്നു. അങ്ങനെ ജെ.എസ്.എസ് (ജനാധിപത്യ സംരക്ഷണ സമിതി) എന്ന ഗൗരിയമ്മയുടെ സ്വന്തം പാർട്ടി പിറന്നു. ഇടതുകോട്ടകളിൽ പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് ആലപ്പുഴയിലെ ജെ.എസ്.എസ് ഉണ്ടാക്കിയ വിള്ളൽ ചെറുതല്ല. യുഡിഎഫ് പാളയത്തിലിരുന്നു ജെ.എസ്.എസ് ആലപ്പുഴയിലെ കമ്മ്യൂണിസ്റ്റ് പാർട്ടിയുടെ വേരറുത്തു. 2001ൽ യുഡിഎഫ് മന്ത്രിസഭയിൽ ഗൗരിയമ്മ കൃഷിമന്ത്രിയായി. പക്ഷേ തുടർച്ചയായി ജെ.എസ്.എസിനുണ്ടായ പരാജയം യുഡിഎഫ് പാളയം വിടുന്നതിലാണ് അവസാനിച്ചത്.
