എട്ടാം ക്ലാസിൽ പഠിക്കുമ്പോൾ സാബു ജേക്കബിനോട് അച്ഛൻ എം.സി ജേക്കബ് പറഞ്ഞു, ‘ സ്കൂള്‍ വിട്ടു വന്നാൽ അന്ന അലൂമിനിയത്തിലേക്ക് വരണം. നാളെ മുതൽ നിന്നെ നമ്മുടെ കമ്പനിയിൽ ജോലി ക്കെടുത്തു.’
ശമ്പളമായി പരിപ്പുവടയും സമൂസയും കിട്ടുമല്ലോ എന്ന സന്തോഷത്തിൽ ഒാടിച്ചെന്ന മകന്റെ കൈയിലേക്ക് എം.സി. ജേക്കബ് വലിയ ബ്രഷും ബക്കറ്റും കൊടുത്തു.‘‘ ഇന്നു മുതൽ എല്ലാ ദിവസവും കമ്പനിയിലെ ക ക്കൂസും മൂത്രപ്പുരയും വൃത്തിയാക്കുന്നത് നീയാണ്.’’
സാബു ഒന്നു ഞെട്ടി. എന്നാലും വൈകുന്നേരം കിട്ടുന്ന ശമ്പളം ഒാർത്തപ്പോൾ രണ്ടും കൽപിച്ച് വാതിൽ തുറന്ന് അകത്തു കയറി. മൂക്കു പൊത്തി പുറത്തേക്കോടി.
‘‘പക്ഷേ എന്റെ കയ്യിൽ നിന്ന് ആ ബ്രഷ് വാങ്ങി അ ച്ഛൻ വൃത്തിയാക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങി. എന്നോട് വെള്ളം ഒഴിച്ചു കൊടുക്കാൻ പറഞ്ഞു. ഏതു ജോലിക്കും മാന്യതയുണ്ടെന്ന് അന്ന് പഠിച്ചതാണ്.
ഒരു വർഷം കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ ‘പ്രമോഷൻ’ കിട്ടി. ഫാക്ടറിയുടെ അകം അടിച്ചു വാരുന്ന ജോലി. കക്കൂസ് വൃത്തിയാക്കുന്നതാണ് അതിലും ഭേദമെന്ന് തോന്നി. വാതിലടച്ചു കഴിഞ്ഞാൽ ചെയ്യുന്ന ജോലി മറ്റാരും കാണില്ലല്ലോ. ‘മുതലാളിയുടെ മകൻ’ ചൂലുമായി നടക്കുന്നതു കണ്ട് മൂക്കത്തു വിരൽ വച്ചവരുടെ പരിഹാസവും ചിരിയുമൊക്കെ ആദ്യം എനിക്ക് താങ്ങാനായില്ല. പക്ഷേ, കുറച്ചു ദിവസം കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ എന്റെ ഉള്ളിലെ ഈഗോ ഇറങ്ങിപ്പോയി. അതു തന്നെയാകും അച്ഛനും മനസ്സിൽ കണ്ടതെന്ന് ഇപ്പോൾ തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞു.
അടുത്ത വർഷം സ്ഥാനക്കയറ്റം കിട്ടി. കിറ്റക്സിന്റെ കെട്ടിട നി ർമാണം നടക്കുന്ന സമയം. കോൺക്രീറ്റ് മിക്സിങും കമ്പികെട്ടലുമായി ജോലി. അതു കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോഴേക്കും 200 വീവിങ് മെഷീനുകൾ വന്നു. അത് കമ്മിഷൻ ചെയ്യുന്നവർക്കൊപ്പം. പിന്നെ മെഷീനുകൾ പ്രവർത്തിപ്പിക്കുന്ന ജോലി, വർക്ക് സൂപ്പർവൈസർ, ഷിഫ്റ്റ് ഇൻ ചാർജ്, വീവീങ് മാസ്റ്റർ, ഡയറക്ടർ, എക്സിക്യൂട്ടീവ് ഡയറക്ടർ….1993ൽ കിറ്റക്സിന്റെ മാനേജിങ് ഡയറക്ടർ. വലിയ അനുഭവ പാഠമായിരുന്നു ഈ യാത്ര.
ജീവനക്കാരിൽ ഒരാളായി വളർന്നാണ് ഇന്നു കാണുന്ന സാബു ജേക്കബ് ആയത്. അല്ലാതെ ഒരു സുപ്രഭാതത്തിൽ നടന്ന കാര്യമല്ല. എല്ലാ ജോലിക്കാരുടെയും മനസ്സും വേദനകളും എനിക്ക് അറിയാം. സ്വപ്നങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ചും അവരുടെ ജീവിതം ചൂഷണം ചെയ്യാനെത്തുവരെക്കുറിച്ചും അറിയാം.’’
സാബു ജേക്കബിന്റെ വാക്കുകൾ കാതോർത്താൽ ഒരു നാട് കയ്യടിക്കുന്ന ശബ്ദം കേൾക്കാം.
2015 തദ്ദേശ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പിൽ ട്വന്റി 20 കിഴക്കമ്പലം ചരിത്രമാകുകയായിരുന്നു. അടിമുടി രാഷ്ട്രീയക്കൊടി പാറുന്ന കേരളത്തിൽ രാഷ്ട്രീയമില്ലാത്ത സംഘടന, അതും ഒരു കമ്പനിയുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തിലുള്ള സംഘടന പഞ്ചായത്ത് ഭരണം പിടിച്ചെടുക്കുന്നു.
പലരും കരുതിയ പോലെ അത് കിഴക്കമ്പലത്തു തുടങ്ങി അവിടെ തീർന്ന വെറും പരീക്ഷണം മാത്രമായില്ല. അ‌ഞ്ചു വർഷം കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ മൂന്നു പഞ്ചായത്തുകൾ കൂടി പിടിച്ചെടുത്തു. മറ്റൊരു പഞ്ചായത്തിൽ പകുതിയോളം സീറ്റ്, ബ്ലോക്ക്, ജില്ലാ പഞ്ചായത്ത് വിജയങ്ങൾ…
ബിസിനസുകാരൻ എന്നാൽ എല്ലാ രാഷ്ട്രീയക്കാർക്കും കയറി നിരങ്ങാൻ ഉള്ള ആളാണെന്ന് പല പാർട്ടിക്കാരും കരുതുന്നു. അതിൽ കൊടിയുടെ നിറഭേദമില്ല. ഞങ്ങൾ നോട്ടടിച്ചുണ്ടാക്കുന്നവരാണെന്ന മട്ടിലാണ് അവർ പെരുമാറുക. പെട്ടെന്നൊരു ദിവസം നമ്മുടെ മുന്നിൽ വന്ന് ഡിമാന്റുകൾ വയ്ക്കും. ചോദിക്കുന്ന പൈസ കൊടുത്തില്ലെങ്കിൽ അധികാരം ഉപയോഗിച്ച് ഉപദ്രവിക്കും. ഭീഷണിപ്പെടുത്തും
1988 ൽ കമ്പനിയിൽ യൂണിയൻ ഉണ്ടാക്കാനുള്ള സമരം നടന്നു. പുറമേ നിന്നെത്തിയവരാണ് സമരം നടത്തുന്നത്. 585 ദിവസം നീണ്ടു നിന്നു. പല ജില്ലകളിൽ നിന്നും സമരം ചെയ്യാൻ ബസ്സുകളിൽ ആളുകൾ എത്തി. ഒടുവിൽ കോടതി ഇടപെട്ടു. ഒറ്റ ദിവസം കൊണ്ട് സമരം തീർന്നു.
2001 ൽ അന്നത്തെ മന്ത്രിസഭ അധികാരത്തിൽ ഏറിയ ദിവസം. നുറ്റമ്പതോളം പേർ വന്ന് കമ്പനിക്കു നേരെ ബോംബ് എറിഞ്ഞ് വലിയ നാശനഷ്ടങ്ങളുണ്ടാക്കി. കുറച്ചു വർഷം മുൻപ് പുതിയൊരു രാഷ്ട്രീയപ്പാർട്ടിക്കാർ വന്ന് അമ്പതു ലക്ഷം രൂപ സംഭാവന ചോദിച്ചു. അത്തരമൊരു സംഘടനയെക്കുറിച്ച് ഞാൻ കേട്ടിട്ടു പോലുമില്ല. അമ്പതിനായിരം രൂപ കൊടുക്കാമെന്നു പറഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ ഭീഷണിപ്പെടുത്തി തിരിച്ചു പോയി. അവരുടെയും ഉപദ്രവങ്ങളുണ്ടായി.
എന്റെ അച്ഛനെ കാറിൽ നിന്ന് വലിച്ചിറക്കി റോഡിലിട്ടു എഴുപത് വെട്ടു വെട്ടി. വിരലുകൾ ചിതറിപ്പോയി. മൂന്നു പ്രാവശ്യം എനിക്കു നേരെ ബോംബേറുണ്ടായി. തലനാരിഴയ്ക്കാണ് രക്ഷപ്പെട്ടത്. ഇത്തരം ഭീഷണികൾ കുട്ടിക്കാലം തൊട്ടേ കണ്ടു വളർന്ന ആളാണ് ഞാൻ. അതുകൊണ്ടു തന്നെ പ്രതിസന്ധികൾ ചങ്കുറപ്പോടെ നേരിടാൻ പഠിച്ചു.
നമ്മുടെ ബിസിനസ് വളരുന്നതിനൊപ്പം ഈ നാടും വളരണമെന്നായിരുന്നു അച്ഛന്റെ കാഴ്ചപ്പാട്. അതാണ് യഥാർഥ വികസനം എന്നായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ വിശ്വാസം. 2012 ൽ അച്ഛന്റെ മരണത്തോടെ ആ സ്വപ്നങ്ങൾ പൂർത്തിയാക്കാൻ ശ്രമങ്ങൾ തുടങ്ങി. അച്ഛൻ വ്യക്തികളെ ആണ് സഹായിച്ചിരുന്നത്. ഞങ്ങൾ കിഴക്കമ്പലം എന്ന നാട്ടിലേക്ക് ആ സ്വപ്നത്തെ വലുതാക്കി. നാടിനു വേണ്ട കാര്യങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ചറിയാൻ പഠനം നടത്തി. ആ റിപ്പോർട്ട് ഞെട്ടിക്കുന്നതായിരുന്നു.
282 കുടുംബങ്ങൾ പ്ലാസ്റ്റിക് ഷീറ്റ് വലിച്ചു കെട്ടിയ വീട്ടിലായിരുന്നു താമസിച്ചിരുന്നത്. അതിനുള്ളിൽ മനുഷ്യനും ആടും കോഴിയും ഒരുമിച്ചു കഴിയുന്ന കാഴ്ച. കുടിവെള്ളം ഇല്ലാത്ത, വൈദ്യുതിയില്ലാത്ത വീടുകൾ. പലരും പട്ടിണിയിൽ. ഇത് ഒന്നോ രണ്ടോ വർഷം കൊണ്ട് പരിഹരിക്കാവുന്ന പ്രശ്നങ്ങളല്ലെന്ന് തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞു. 2020 ൽ ഒരു ഘട്ടം പൂർത്തിയാക്കാം എന്നു തീരുമാനിച്ചു. അങ്ങനെ ട്വന്റി 20 എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.
2013 മേയ് 19ന് മീറ്റിങ് വിളിച്ചു. അവിടെക്കൂടിയ ആയിരത്തി അഞ്ഞൂറോളം നാട്ടുകാർക്കു മുന്നിൽ സ്വപ്നത്തെക്കുറിച്ചു പറഞ്ഞു. പലർക്കും അദ്ഭുതമായിരുന്നു. സംസാരിച്ചു ക ഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ എന്നെ പഠിപ്പിച്ച അന്നക്കുട്ടി ടീച്ചർ ചോദിച്ചു, ‘മോനേ ഇതെല്ലാം നടക്കുമോ?’ മൂന്നു മാസം മുൻപ് ടീച്ചറെ ഞാൻ വീണ്ടും കണ്ടു. ‘അന്നത്തെ ചോദ്യത്തിന് മോൻ പ്രവർത്തിച്ചു ഉത്തരം നൽകി’ എന്ന് ടീച്ചർ പറഞ്ഞു.
ജനങ്ങൾക്കു വേണ്ടി ഞങ്ങൾ ചെയ്തിരുന്ന പല കാര്യങ്ങളും അവര്‍ മുടക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങി. കുടിവെള്ളപ്രശ്നം പരിഹരിക്കാനായിരുന്നു ആദ്യ‌ശ്രമം. ഒാരോ വീട്ടിലേക്കും വെള്ളം എത്തിക്കാനുള്ള പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങള്‍ തുടങ്ങി. മൂന്നാമത്തെ കോളനിയിൽ വാട്ടർ ടാങ്ക് നിർമിച്ചു തുടങ്ങിയപ്പോൾ ‘അപകടം’ മനസ്സിലാക്കി രാഷ്ട്രീയക്കാർ തടഞ്ഞു. ഇതിനെതിരെ ജനങ്ങൾ അണിനിരന്നു. പഞ്ചായത്ത് പിക്കറ്റ് ചെയ്തു. ഒരാഴ്ചയ്ക്കുള്ളിൽ സ്റ്റോപ് മെമ്മോ പിൻവലിക്കേണ്ടി വന്നു.
പല വീടുകളിലും അടിസ്ഥാന സൗകര്യങ്ങൾ കുറവായിരുന്നു. ഇതു മനസ്സിലാക്കി 2014 ഒാണക്കാലത്ത് ജനങ്ങൾക്കു വേണ്ടി ഒരു ഫെസ്റ്റ് സംഘടിപ്പിച്ചു. കട്ടിലും കിടക്കയും മിക്സിയും തേപ്പുപെട്ടിയും ഉൾപ്പടെയുള്ള സാധനങ്ങൾ പകുതിവിലയിൽ വാങ്ങാനുള്ള അവസരം. സ്ത്രീകൾ ആദ്യമേ അതിനു വേണ്ടി പണം എടുത്തു വയ്ക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങി. ഉദ്ഘാടന ദിവസം ഉത്സവപ്രതീതിയായിരുന്നു. ആയിരക്കണക്കിനു പേർ സ്റ്റാളിന്റെ അകത്തു നിൽക്കുമ്പോൾ പൊലീസും രാഷ്ട്രീയക്കാരുമെത്തി ഫെസ്റ്റ് നടത്താൻ അനുവാദമില്ലെന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. 144 പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു. അത് ജനങ്ങളുടെ മനസ്സിൽ വലിയ മുറിവായി.
എല്ലാവർക്കും പറയാൻ ഒരു കാര്യമേ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നുള്ളൂ.– ‘അധികാരം ഉള്ളതുകൊണ്ടല്ലേ ഇവർക്ക് ഈ വൃത്തികേട് കാണിക്കാൻ പറ്റുന്നത്. അതുകൊണ്ട് ഈ അധികാരം ഇങ്ങെടുക്കണം സാറേ… ’ ആ രാത്രിയിലാണ് ട്വന്റി 20 തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പിൽ മത്സരിക്കാം എന്നു തീരുമാനിക്കുന്നത്
പരമ്പരാഗത രാഷ്ട്രീയപാർ‌ട്ടികള്‍ക്ക് ജനങ്ങൾ വോട്ടു ചെയ്തിരുന്നത് മറ്റു നിവൃത്തി ഇല്ലാത്തതു കൊണ്ടായിരുന്നു. പകരം അഴിമതി ഇല്ലാത്ത സംഘടന വന്നപ്പോൾ അവർ അതു തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തു.
പ്രഫഷനൽ രീതിയിലാണ് എല്ലാ വികസന പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങളും നടക്കുന്നത്. 25 വർഷം മുന്നിൽ കണ്ട് റോഡുകൾ വികസിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. മഴപെയ്യുമ്പോൾ ചോർന്നൊലിക്കുന്ന ലക്ഷംവീടു കോളനിയിലെ ജനങ്ങൾക്ക് 72 ഗോഡ്സ് ഒാൺ വില്ലകളുണ്ടാക്കി. ഇതിനു പുറമേ ആയിരത്തിനടുത്ത് വീടുകൾ നിർമിച്ചു നൽകി. കിഴക്കമ്പലം പഞ്ചായത്തിലുള്ള എല്ലാവർക്കും എൺപതു ശതമാനം വരെ വിലക്കുറവിൽ പച്ചക്കറികളും പലവ്യഞ്ജനങ്ങളും വാങ്ങാനുള്ള ഭക്ഷ്യസുരക്ഷാമാർക്കറ്റ് ഉണ്ടാക്കി. ലക്ഷക്കണക്കിന് തൈകൾ വീടുകളിൽ സൗജന്യമായി ന ട്ടു കൊടുത്തു… പഞ്ചായത്തിന് സ്വന്തമായി ആംബുലൻസും ഫയർ എഞ്ചിനും വരെയുണ്ട്. ഇനിയും ഏറെയുണ്ട് പറയാൻ.
ഈ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പിലും വലിയ വിജയം നേടുമെന്ന് ഞങ്ങൾക്കും ജനങ്ങൾക്കും സംശയമുണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല. കോർപ്പറേറ്റ് സംവിധാനം ഒരു പഞ്ചായത്തിലെ ഭരണം പിടിച്ചെടുക്കുന്ന ആദ്യത്തെ സംഭവമാണ് ട്വന്റി 20യുടേത്.
വലിയ കമ്പനികൾ നിർബന്ധമായും സേവനപ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾ നടത്തേണ്ട സിഎസ്ആർ ഫണ്ട് ഉപയോഗിച്ചാണ് പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾ നടത്തുന്നത്… അങ്ങനെ എത്രയോ ആരോപണങ്ങൾ. ഞങ്ങൾ കാരണം തൊഴിൽ ന ഷ്ടപ്പെട്ട രാഷ്ട്രീയക്കാരാണ് ഇത് പ്രചരിപ്പിക്കുന്നത്. ജനങ്ങ ൾ അങ്ങനെ ചിന്തിക്കുന്നുണ്ടെങ്കില്‍ ഈ വിജയം ലഭിക്കുമോ? ജനങ്ങൾക്കു വേണ്ടിയാണ് ഞങ്ങൾ നിൽക്കുന്നതെന്ന് അവർക്കറിയാം. ഒരുദാഹരണം കൂടി പറയാം കിഴക്കമ്പലം പഞ്ചായത്തിൽ സർട്ടിഫിക്കറ്റിനും മറ്റ് സേവനങ്ങൾക്കുമായി വരുന്നവർക്ക് ആ ദിവസം തന്നെ ലഭിക്കും. എന്തെങ്കിലും സാങ്കേതിക കാരണം കൊണ്ട് അന്നതു കിട്ടിയില്ലെങ്കിൽ വീട്ടിൽ എത്തിക്കേണ്ടത് വാർഡ് മെമ്പറുടെ ഉത്തരവാദിത്തമാണ്. ഒരോ വീട്ടിലെ അംഗങ്ങള്‍ക്കും ശ്രദ്ധ നൽകിയുള്ള ചിട്ടയായ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങളാണ് നടക്കുന്നത്.

ഒരു നാടിന്റെ വികസനം അവിടെയുള്ള ജനങ്ങളുടെ ‘ഹാപ്പിനസ് ഇൻഡക്സ്’ ആണ്. വികസിത രാജ്യങ്ങളിൽ അതാണ് നോക്കുന്നത്. റോഡും തോടും ഉണ്ടായിട്ട് കാര്യമില്ല. ആ കണക്കെടുത്താൽ ഇന്ത്യയിലെ തന്നെ ഏറ്റവും നല്ല പഞ്ചായത്ത് ഞങ്ങളുടെതാണ്. അഞ്ചുവർഷത്തിനുള്ളിൽ കിഴക്കമ്പലം പഞ്ചായത്തിലെ ക്രൈംറേറ്റ് 80 ശതമാനത്തോളം കുറവാണ്.
