കൊച്ചി, 28 സെപ്റ്റംബര്‍ 2023: കപ്പല്‍ മാര്‍ഗ്ഗത്തിലൂടെയുള്ള ചരക്കുനീക്കത്തില്‍ ഇക്കൊല്ലം രണ്ടാംപാദത്തില്‍ കൊച്ചി 21.8% വളര്‍ച്ച കൈവരിച്ചതായി കേന്ദ്രമന്ത്രി ശ്രീ. സര്‍ബാനന്ദ സോനോവാള്‍. ആഗോള മാരിടൈം ഉച്ചകോടിയുടെ മൂന്നാംപതിപ്പിന് മുന്നോടിയായി കൊച്ചിയില്‍ നടത്തിയ പ്രത്യേക റോഡ്ഷോയ്ക്ക് വേണ്ടി നല്‍കിയ വീഡിയോ സന്ദേശത്തില്‍ സംസാരിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹം. കേന്ദ്ര തുറമുഖ, കപ്പല്‍, ജലഗതാഗത വകുപ്പിന് വേണ്ടി കൊച്ചിന്‍ പോര്‍ട്ട് അതോറിറ്റിയും കൊച്ചിന്‍ ഷിപ്യാര്‍ഡും സംയുക്തമായാണ് ലെ മെറിഡിയന്‍ ഹോട്ടലില്‍ റോഡ്ഷോ സംഘടിപ്പിച്ചത്.
കേരളത്തിലെ തീരദേശ വിഭവസമ്പത്തും തുറമുഖങ്ങളും സംസ്ഥാനത്തെ സാമ്പത്തികവളര്‍ച്ചയിലേക്ക് നയിക്കുമെന്നും, രാജ്യത്തിന്റെ പ്രത്യേക സാമ്പത്തിക ഇടനാഴികളില്‍ കൊച്ചിക്ക് ശ്രദ്ധേയമായ സ്ഥാനമുണ്ടെന്നും കേന്ദ്ര തുറമുഖ, കപ്പല്‍, ജലഗതാഗത വകുപ്പ് മന്ത്രി ശ്രീ. സര്‍ബാനന്ദ സോനോവാള്‍ പറഞ്ഞു. വിഴിഞ്ഞത്തും വല്ലാര്‍പ്പാടത്തും നിര്‍മാണപ്രവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങള്‍ പുരോഗമിക്കുന്ന വന്‍പദ്ധതികളും കൊച്ചിയിലെ വാട്ടര്‍ മെട്രോയും പരിപാടിയില്‍ ചര്‍ച്ചയായി.
കേരളത്തിലേതുള്‍പ്പെടെ, രാജ്യത്തെ എല്ലാ തീരദേശമേഖലകളുടെയും സ്വാഭാവിക സവിശേഷതകളും സമ്പത്തും പ്രയോജനപ്പെടുത്തി വാണിജ്യ, ടൂറിസം മേഖലകള്‍ക്ക് ഊര്‍ജം പകരാനാണ് ശ്രമമെന്ന് കേന്ദ്ര തുറമുഖവകുപ്പ് സഹമന്ത്രി ശ്രീ ശാന്തനു താക്കൂര്‍ പറഞ്ഞു. ഈ രംഗത്ത് കൂടുതല്‍ നിക്ഷേപങ്ങളും സഞ്ചാരികളെയും ആകര്‍ഷിക്കാന്‍ കേരളത്തിന് കഴിയുമെന്നും അദ്ദേഹം കൂട്ടിച്ചേര്‍ത്തു. അതിനുവേണ്ടി അടിസ്ഥാനസൗകര്യ വികസനത്തിലും നിയമനിര്‍മാണത്തിലും സര്‍ക്കാര്‍ പ്രത്യേക ശ്രദ്ധ നല്‍കും.
പ്രതിവര്‍ഷം 35 ദശലക്ഷം മെട്രിക് ടണ്‍ ചരക്കാണ് കൊച്ചിയിലൂടെ കടന്നുപോകുന്നത്. രാജ്യത്തെ 12 പ്രധാന തുറമുഖങ്ങളില്‍ കൊച്ചിയുടെ സാന്നിധ്യവും സംഭാവനകളും അവഗണിക്കാനാവാത്തതാണെന്ന് കൊച്ചിന്‍ പോര്‍ട്ട് അതോറിറ്റി അധ്യക്ഷ ഡോ. ബീന എം IAS പറഞ്ഞു. നിര്‍മാണം പൂര്‍ത്തിയാകുമ്പോള്‍ ഇന്ത്യയിലെ ആദ്യത്തെ മെഗാ ട്രാന്‍സ്ഷിപ്പ്‌മെന്റ് കണ്ടെയ്‌നര്‍ ടെര്‍മിനലായ വിഴിഞ്ഞം തുറമുഖം, പരിസ്ഥിതി സൗഹാര്‍ദ്ദവും സുസ്ഥിരവുമായ ചരക്കുനീക്കത്തിന് വഴിയൊരുക്കും.
പരിപാടിയില്‍ കൊച്ചിന്‍ പോര്‍ട്ട് അതോറിറ്റിയുടെ ഉപാധ്യക്ഷന്‍ ശ്രീ വികാസ് നര്‍വാള്‍ രാജ്യത്തെ തുറമുഖങ്ങളെ കുറിച്ച് വിശദമായി കാണികള്‍ക്ക് പരിചയപ്പെടുത്തിയ പ്രസേന്റ്റേഷന്‍ അവതരിപ്പിച്ചു. ഇന്ത്യയിലെ ചെറുതും വലുതുമായ ഇരുന്നൂറോളം തുറമുഖങ്ങളില്‍ കൊച്ചിയുടെ പങ്ക് വളരെ വലുതാണെന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം വിശദീകരിച്ചു. രാജ്യത്താകെയുള്ള 28 കപ്പല്‍ നിര്‍മാണശാലകളില്‍ ഏറ്റവും വലുതാണ് കൊച്ചിയില്‍ സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നത്. ഇന്ത്യയുമായി സമുദ്രമാര്‍ഗം വാണിജ്യബന്ധത്തിലേര്‍പ്പെട്ടിട്ടുള്ളത് നൂറോളം രാജ്യങ്ങളാണ്. അതില്‍ 1.3% കടന്നുപോകുന്നത് കൊച്ചി തുറമുഖത്തിലൂടെയാണ്. ഏറ്റവും പുതിയ കണക്കുകള്‍ പ്രകാരം കപ്പലുകള്‍ പുനരുപയോഗിക്കുന്നതില്‍ ഇന്ത്യയ്ക്ക് ലോകത്തെ രണ്ടാം സ്ഥാനവും ലോജിസ്റ്റിക്‌സ് സംവിധാനങ്ങളുടെ മികവില്‍ മുപ്പത്തിയെട്ടാം സ്ഥാനവുമാണുള്ളതെന്ന് വികാസ് നര്‍വാള്‍ പറഞ്ഞു.
വിഴിഞ്ഞം, വാട്ടര്‍ മെട്രോ എന്നിവയ്ക്ക് സമാനമായ കൂടുതല്‍ പദ്ധതികളിലൂടെ ആഗോളഭൂപടത്തില്‍ കേരളത്തിലെ തുറമുഖങ്ങളുടെ സ്ഥാനം ഉയര്‍ത്തുമെന്ന് സംസ്ഥാന ഫിഷറീസ്, തുറമുഖ വകുപ്പ് പ്രിന്‍സിപ്പല്‍ സെക്രട്ടറി ശ്രീ. കെ.എസ്. ശ്രീനിവാസ് ഐഎഎസ് പറഞ്ഞു. കൊച്ചിന്‍ ഷിപ്പ് യാര്‍ഡ് ലിമിറ്റഡ് ചെയര്‍മാന്‍ ശ്രീ മധു എസ് നായര്‍ പരിപാടിയില്‍ കൃതജ്ഞത രേഖപ്പെടുത്തി.

ഒക്ടോബര്‍ 17 മുതല്‍ 19 വരെ മുംബൈ ബികെസിയിലുള്ള എം.എം.ആര്‍.ഡി.എ ഗ്രൗണ്ടിലാണ് ഇക്കൊല്ലത്തെ ആഗോള മാരിടൈം ഉച്ചകോടി നടക്കാനുള്ള തയാറെടുപ്പുകള്‍ പുരോഗമിക്കുന്നത്. സമുദ്രമേഖലയിലെ വളര്‍ച്ചയും പരസ്പരസഹകരണവും പ്രോത്സാഹിപ്പിക്കുന്നതിനാണ് ഉച്ചകോടിയും അതിനോടനുബന്ധിച്ചുള്ള പരിപാടികളും സംഘടിപ്പിക്കുന്നത്. കൊച്ചിന്‍ പോര്‍ട്ട് അതോറിറ്റിയും കൊച്ചിന്‍ ഷിപ്യാര്‍ഡും ചേര്‍ന്നാണ് കൊച്ചിയിലെ പരിപാടികള്‍ ആസൂത്രണം ചെയ്യുന്നതും നടപ്പിലാക്കുന്നതും. ”കൂട്ടിയിണക്കുക, സഹകരിക്കുക, നിര്‍മിക്കുക” എന്നതാണ് ഇത്തവണത്തെ ഉച്ചകോടിയുടെ പ്രമേയം. ഇന്ത്യന്‍ വാണിജ്യ വ്യവസായ ചേംബറുമായുള്ള (FICCI) പ്രത്യേക പങ്കാളിത്തത്തോടെയാണ് ഇത്തവണത്തെ ഉച്ചകോടി സംഘടിപ്പിക്കുന്നത്.

Kochi, 28thSeptember2023: In a concerted effort to drive cooperative and sustainable growth in the maritime sector, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways of the Government of India (MoPSW), in partnership with the Cochin Port Authority and Cochin Shipyard Ltd.,organised a roadshow at Hotel Le Meridian in Kochi as a precursor to the 3rd Global Maritime India Summit 2023.
Anchored by the Cochin Port Authority and Cochin Shipyard Ltd, the roadshow brought together industry veterans and government officials, sparking dynamic discussions on critical opportunities within the Indian Maritime sector. This event served as a precursor to the 3rd Global Maritime India Summit, 2023 (GMIS), slated for October 17th to October 19th, 2023, at MMRDA Ground, BKC, Mumbai. In an exclusive partnership with FICCI, the summit is dedicated to fostering connections, driving collaborative initiatives, and igniting innovation, all encapsulated under the overarching theme of ‘Connect, Collaborate & Create’.
In a special video message, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Hon’ble Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways (MoPSW) & AYUSH, highlighted the significance of Kochi during India’s Amrit Kaal. He said, “Kerala envisions a future rooted in the port-led development and strives to become a gateway to economic prosperity by harnessing its coastal assets. Kerala’s all-weather seaport in Cochin hosts significant liquid bulk and container terminals, thriving within its port-based Special Economic Zones. Kerala is also home to the world-renowned Cochin Shipyard Ltd., serving as India’s primary shipbuilding and repair hub. Cochin’s maritime potential is, thus, boundless, exemplified by its remarkable 21.8% growth in the liner connectivity index in the second quarter of 2023.
The Minister further elaborated, “In harmony with this vision and under the dynamic and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government has spearheaded impactful initiatives, including the development of upcoming mega ports such as Vizhinjam and the Free Trade Warehousing Zone at Vallarpadam, promising significant enhancements in infrastructure, investments, and overall industry expansion. Additionally, the ongoing Kochi Water Metro project is committed to promoting coastal community development, thereby transforming local livelihoods by providing metro connectivity to 10 islands through a 78-kilometer network, benefiting over 1 lakh islanders. Our shipbuilding and repair industry, driven by Cochin Shipyard Ltd, is also revolutionising the shipping ecosystem with cutting-edge technology vessels, including hybrid electric ferries for the Kochi Water Metro, Battery Electric Autonomous-Zero Emission Vessels, and Hydrogen fuel ferries, all aligned with our sustainability goals. I am confident that the upcoming Global Maritime India Summit 2023 will indeed become a historic milestone, impacting our maritime sector and overall economic development.”
During his virtual address, Shri Shantanu Thakur, Hon’ble Minister of State for Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Government of India, said, "In our pursuit of transforming India’s waterways into thriving hubs of commerce and tourism, we have witnessed remarkable growth in cruise tourism and economic development of our hinterland regions. Through infrastructure development, legislative reforms, and innovative projects, we are revitalising India’s maritime heritage, and Kerala, with its scenic backwaters, leads the way in this transformation, attracting tourists and investments alike. The state is blessed with varied geographical features that have made it one of the most sought-after maritime tourism destinations in Asia, and supporting this is Kochi, by being India’s first city with a water metro project that is setting the standard for eco-friendly transportation. In addition, through our other initiatives, like the community jetties, we are determined to create more job opportunities, stimulate microeconomies, and showcase our maritime heritage along with the West Coast Canal System and National Waterway 3,which further testify to our dedication to realising the potential of waterways.”
During her welcome address,Dr. M. Beena, IAS, Chairperson of the Cochin Port Authority, said, "Over the years, the state of Kerala has undergone a remarkable transformation, propelled by the collaborative efforts of the state and central government, industry stakeholders, and the unwavering support of the maritime community. It is emerging as a leader in maritime infrastructure, with Cochin Port being one of the 12 major ports, contributing over 35 million metric tons per annum to national maritime traffic.”She continued, "With sustainability being our core vision, we are fully committed to adopting green technologies and practices and lead the way in sustainable transportation by reducing our carbon footprint. We have, thus, focused our efforts on revolutionizing logistics through transformative initiatives like Vizhinjam Port, India’s first mega transshipment container terminal, and Cochin Port’s LNG bunkering facilities, which showcase our commitment to a resilient future, driving economic growth and preserving our transport heritage.”
Through a detailed presentation, Shri Vikas Narwal, IAS, Dy. Chairperson, Cochin Port Authority, shed light on India’s 12 major ports and 200+ non-major ports and focused on Kerala ports’ contribution to the Indian Maritime ecosystem. He said, “With 28 shipbuilding yards in the country, with Kerala boasting the largest, 14 million GRT ship carrying capacity and over 2.5 lakh seafarers navigating worldwide, the Indian maritime community is robust where Kerala stands as a pillar of strength. India is trading with more than 100 nations across the world today and 1.3% of our merchandise trade goes through Cochin Port.”
Shri Narwal further added, highlighting the maritime sector’s progress in India, “Our two ports, JNP and Mundra, rank among the top 40 global ports and India is among the top five in trained manpower as by 2021 data. We are ranked 2nd in global ship recycling and 38th in logistics performance index as per the recently released data in 2023.”
Virtually addressing the audience, Shri K.S. Srinivas, IAS, Principal Secretary to Govt. of Kerala, Fisheries and Ports Department, said, “We’re honored to be the inaugural participant and sponsor state for GMIS 2023 in Mumbai. Leveraging our extensive network and expertise, we aim to expand our global shipping presence within the next year and GMIS 2023 will serve as a catalyst for this endeavor, facilitating national and international collaborations to drive Kerala’s growth and showcase our potential to the world. The transshipment terminal being established in Vizhinjam as well as the development of Water Metro in Kerala will further highlight Kerala’s maritime potential.”
