ജനറല്‍ ആശുപത്രിയിലെ നവജാതശിശു തീവ്രപരിചരണ വിഭാഗത്തില്‍ പ്രവേശിപ്പിക്കുന്ന കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് മാത്രമാണ് പ്രാരംഭഘട്ടത്തില്‍ തികച്ചും സൗജന്യമായി മുലപ്പാല്‍ ലഭ്യമാക്കുക. പിന്നീട് പാല്‍ ശേഖരണത്തിനും വിതരണത്തിനുമായി ആശുപത്രികളുടെ ശൃംഖലയുണ്ടാക്കാനാണ് പദ്ധതി. ജനറല്‍ ആശുപത്രിയില്‍ പ്രതിവര്‍ഷം 3600-ഓളം കുട്ടികളാണ് ജനിക്കുന്നത്. ഇതില്‍ 600 മുതല്‍ 1000 കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങള്‍ തീവ്രപരിചരണ വിഭാഗത്തില്‍ പ്രവേശിപ്പിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. മാസം തികയുന്നതിന് മുമ്പ് ജനിക്കുന്ന തൂക്കം കുറഞ്ഞ കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങള്‍, ആവശ്യമായ പാല്‍ നല്‍കാന്‍ കഴിയാത്ത അമ്മമാരുടെ കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങള്‍, അമ്മമാരില്‍ നിന്നും പല കാരണങ്ങളാല്‍ അകന്ന് കഴിയേണ്ടി വരുന്ന കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങള്‍ എന്നിവര്‍ക്ക് ബാങ്കില്‍ നിന്നുള്ള പാസ്ച്ചറൈസ് ചെയ്ത മുലപ്പാല്‍ നല്‍കുന്നത് അവരുടെ രോഗപ്രതിരോധശേഷി കൂട്ടാനും അണുബാധ സാധ്യത കുറയ്ക്കാനും സഹായിക്കുമെന്ന് റോട്ടറി കൊച്ചിന്‍ ഗ്ലോബലിലെ ഡോ. പോള്‍ പറഞ്ഞു. ആശുപത്രിയില്‍ തന്നെ പ്രസവം കഴിഞ്ഞതും ആരോഗ്യ വിവരങ്ങള്‍ ലഭ്യമായിട്ടുള്ളതുമായ അമ്മമാര്‍ തന്നെയായിരിക്കും മുലപ്പാല്‍ ദാതാക്കളെന്നും അദ്ദേഹം പറഞ്ഞു. നവജാതശിശുക്കളുടെ ജീവന്‍ രക്ഷിക്കാനുള്ള മഹത്തായ പ്രവര്‍ത്തിയില്‍ പങ്കാളികളാകാന്‍ മുലപ്പാല്‍ കൂടുതലായുള്ള അമ്മമാരെ പ്രോത്സാഹിപ്പിക്കുമെന്നും ഡോ. പോള്‍ കൂട്ടിച്ചേര്‍ത്തു.
