കേരളത്തിലെ സമുന്നതനായ സമുദായ നേതാവും തലശ്ശേരി ജഗന്നാഥ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ മുഹൂർത്തക്കല്ല് വെക്കാൻ ഭഗവാൻ ശ്രീ നാരായണ ഗുരു സ്വാമികൾ അനുഗ്രഹം നൽകിയ മഹാത്മാവും, ശ്രീജ്ഞാനോദയയോഗത്തിന്റെ പ്രഥമ പ്രസിഡന്റ് ആയി 14 വർഷം സേവനം അനുഷ്ഠിച്ച വിശിഷ്ഠ വ്യക്തിയും, തലശ്ശേരി നഗരസഭയുടെ ചെയർമാനുമായിരുന്ന കൊറ്റിയത്ത് രാമുണ്ണി വക്കീലിന്റെ ചരമ ശതാബ്‌ദി ദിനമാണിന്ന്.
മഹാനായ കൊറ്റിയത്ത് രാമുണ്ണി വക്കീൽ ദിവംഗതനായത് 1921 ജൂൺ 5 തിയതിയാണ്. രാമുണ്ണി വക്കീലിന്റെ ജനനവും പ്രാഥമിക വിദ്യാഭ്യാസവും കണ്ണൂരിലാണെകിലും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ കർമ രംഗം ക്രമേണ തലശ്ശേരിയിലേക്ക് മാറുകയായിരുന്നു. ഉത്തരകേരളത്തിലെ അനിഷേധ്യനായ സമുദായ നേതായവായിരുന്ന രാമുണ്ണി വക്കീൽ ശ്രീ നാരായണ ധർമ പരിപാലന യോഗത്തിന്റെ വാർഷിക സമ്മേളങ്ങളിൽ അധ്യക്ഷ സ്ഥാനം അലങ്കരിച്ചിരുന്ന വിശിഷ്ഠ വ്യക്തിത്വം ആയിരുന്നു. മഹാകവി കുമാരനാശാൻ രാമുണ്ണി വക്കീലിനെ പ്രകീർത്തിച്ചത് ഇങ്ങനെ
“കൊറ്റിയത്ത് രമുണ്ണിയെപ്പോലെ തന്റെ ദേശവാസികൾക്ക് പൊതുവായും, സമുദായത്തിന് പ്രത്യേകിച്ചും ഗുണപ്രദങ്ങളായ കാര്യങ്ങളിൽ ശ്രമിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള ഒരു മാന്യപുരുഷൻ മലബാറിൽ ഇപ്പോൾ ജീവിച്ചിരുപ്പുണ്ടോ എന്ന് ഞങ്ങൾക്ക് സംശയമാകുന്നു. ഈ മാന്യ പുരുഷൻ ഇപ്പോൾ തന്റെ ആത്മാവും ശരീരവും ശ്രീ നാരായണ ധർമ പരിപാലന യോഗത്തിന് വേണ്ടി ഉഴിഞ്ഞുവെച്ചിരിക്കുകയാണ്” – (വിവേകോദയം).
തലശ്ശേരി ജഗന്നാഥ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ നാലമ്പലത്തിൽ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ മുഹൂർത്തക്കല്ല് വെക്കാൻ ഭാഗ്യം സിദ്ധിച്ച കൊറ്റിയത്ത് രാമുണ്ണി വക്കീലിന്റെ ചായ യാപടം സ്ഥാപിച്ചപ്പോൾ മൂർക്കോത്തു കുമാരൻ എഴുതിയ ഗാനത്തിലെ ചില വരികൾ.
“പുണ്യാത്മാക്കൾ മരിച്ചാലും മരിക്കയില്ലവരുടെ പുണ്യ കർമഫലമെന്നും ജയിച്ചിടുന്നു. സ്വവർഗത്തിൻ പുരോഗതി പരമോദ്ദേശമാക്കിയും അവികലമതിന്നായി പരിശ്രമിച്ചും”
ജീവിച്ച സമുദായ സ്നേഹിയായിരുന്നു രാമുണ്ണി വക്കീൽ. ജഗന്നാഥ ക്ഷേത്ര സ്ഥാപനത്തിനു ശേഷം തലശ്ശേരിയിലും പരിസര പ്രദേശങ്ങളിലും ഉയർന്ന് വന്ന “ശ്രീ നാരായണ മഠ”ങ്ങളുടെ ഉപജഞാതാവും ക്രാന്തദർശിയായ ആ മഹാനുഭാവനായിരുന്നു.
1917 ൽ വടക്കേമലബാറിലെ തിയ്യരുടെ അവശതകൾ പരിഹരിച്ചു കിട്ടാൻ മദിരാശി ഗവർണർ പെറ്റ്ലന്റ് പ്രഭുവിനെ സന്ദർശിക്കാൻ പോയ നിവേദന സംഘത്തിന്റെ തലവൻ രാമുണ്ണി വക്കീൽ ആയിരുന്നു.
ശ്രീ നാരായണ ഗുരുദേവരുടെ മദ്യവർജ്ജന സന്ദേശങ്ങൾ അന്വർഥമാക്കാൻ യത്നിച്ച ധീരനായ സമുദായ നേതാവായിരുന്നു രാമുണ്ണി വക്കീൽ. തലശ്ശേരിയിലെ ബ്രഹ്മസമാജത്തെ അനുകൂലിക്കുന്നവരും, എതിർക്കുന്നവരും തമ്മിൽ ഉള്ള തർക്കം പരിഹരിക്കാൻ സ്വാമി തൃപ്പാ ദങ്ങളുടെ സാന്നിധ്യത്തിൽ 1906 മാർച്ച്‌ 22 ന് നടന്ന യോഗത്തിലെ പ്രധാനികളിൽ ഒരാൾ രാമുണ്ണി വക്കീൽ ആയിരുന്നു.
1878 ൽ രൂപീകൃതമായ തലശ്ശേരി മുൻസിപ്പാലിറ്റിയിലെ ആദ്യ കൗൺസിലർമാരിൽ ഒരാളായിരുന്നു സർവാദരണീയനായ ഈ പൗരമുഖ്യൻ. ക്രമേണ മൂന്നു വർഷ കാലം നഗരസഭയുടെ ചെയർമാൻ സ്ഥാനവും, സത്യപടുവും, നീതിജ്ഞനുമായ ഈ മഹാരഥനിൽ നിക്ഷിപ്തമായിരുന്നു.
മൂർക്കോത്ത് കുടുംബാങ്ങ് ഗമായ മാധവിഅമ്മ ആയിരുന്നു വന്ദ്യപുരുഷന്റെ സഹധർമിണി. സമുദായ നേതാവും സർവാദരണീ യനുമായ കൊറ്റിയത്ത് കൃഷ്ണൻ വക്കീൽ രാമുണ്ണി വക്കീലിന്റെ മകനാണ്.
ശ്രീ ജ്ഞനോദയ യോഗത്തിനും ജഗന്നാഥ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിനും വിശിഷ്യ തലശ്ശേരിക്കും കൊറ്റിയത്ത് കുടുംബം നൽകിയ സ്നേഹ വാത്സല്യങ്ങൾവർണ്ണനാതീതമാണ്. കൊറ്റിയത്ത് ഭവനം പ്രൌഡിയോടെ ഇന്നും തലശ്ശേരി കോടതിക്ക് അടുത്ത് ഹോളോവേ റോഡിനോട് ചേർന്ന് സ്ഥിതി ചെയുന്നു.
1921 ജൂൺ 5 ന് രാത്രി 8:30 ന് ആണ് ഭഗവാൻ ശ്രീ നാരായണ ഗുരു സ്വാമികളുടെ ഗ്രഹസ്ഥശിഷ്യരിൽ പ്രധാനി ആയിരുന്ന കൊറ്റിയത്ത് രാമുണ്ണി വക്കീൽ ദിവംഗതനായത്.
പുണ്യചരിതന്റെ സ്മരണക്ക് മുന്നിൽ പ്രണാമം അർപ്പിക്കുന്നു.
