സൗത്ത് റെയിൽവേ സ്റ്റേഷന്റെ ഔട്ടറിൽ വീണ്ടും സിഗ്നൽ കാത്തു ട്രെയിൻ പിടിച്ചപ്പോൾ അവൾ ശരിക്കും ഭയന്നു. ആലപ്പുഴയ്ക്കുള്ള ധൻ ബാദ് എക്സ് പ്രസിൽ തൃശ്ശൂരിൽ നിന്നു കയറുമ്പോൾ എറണാകുളത്തിനുള്ള ടിക്കറ്റാണ് എടുത്തിരുന്നത്. സൗത്തിൽ ചെന്ന് പാസഞ്ചറിൽ വീടു പിടിക്കാമെന്നാണ് കരുതിയിരുന്നത്. ഇനിയിപ്പോ വൈ കിയാൽ കൊല്ലത്തേക്കുള്ള പാസഞ്ചർ നഷ്ടമാകുമെന്ന് അവൾക്ക് തോന്നി.. എന്നാൽ അവളെ കൂടുതൽ ടെൻഷനടുപ്പിക്കാതെ ധൻ ബാദ് ചൂളം വിളിച്ചു, സൗത്ത് റെയിൽവേ സ്റ്റേഷനിലെ ഫ്ലാറ്റ് ഫോമിലേക്ക് നിരങ്ങി നിന്നു. രണ്ടാം നമ്പർ പ്ലാറ്റ്ഫോറത്തിൽ നിന്ന് ഒരു സ്പ്രിന്റ് നടത്തി നാലാം നമ്പർ പ്ലാറ്റ്ഫോറത്തിലെ കൊല്ലം പാസഞ്ചറിൽ കയറിപ്പോഴേക്ക് വണ്ടി അനങ്ങിത്തുടങ്ങിയിരുന്നു. മുന്നിലെ കംപാർട്മെന്റ് ആയതു കൊണ്ട് ഒഴിഞ്ഞ സീറ്റുകൾ നന്നേ കുറവായിരുന്നു . ഓടികയറിയതിന്റെ കിതപ്പ് അടങ്ങിയപ്പോൾ അവളുടെ കണ്ണുകൾ ചുറ്റിനും സീറ്റിനായി അ പരതി. ലഗേജ് ബാഗ് മുകളിലേക്ക് വെച്ച് മൂന്നു പേർക്കുള്ള സീറ്റിൽ കുഞ്ഞിനെ ഒതുക്കി നാലാമതായി അവൾ ഇരുപ്പറപ്പിച്ചു, മാതാവിന്റെ അനിഷ്ടം വകവെയ്ക്കാതെ !!
കുന്നംകുളത്തുള്ള ഓഫീസിൽ നിന്ന് കൊല്ലം വരെയുള്ള ഈ വെള്ളിയാഴ്ച്ച യാത്രകൾ അരോചകമായി അവൾക്ക് തോന്നിതുടങ്ങിയിരുന്നു. PSC കടമ്പ കടക്കുവാനടുത്ത പരിശ്രമം ആലോചിച്ചപ്പോൾ റാങ്ക് ലിസ്റ്റിൽ കടന്നുകൂടിയാൽ കേരളത്തിൽ എവിടെ ജോലി കിട്ടിയാലും സന്തോഷത്തോടെ പോയി ജോലി ചെയ്യുമെന്നൊക്കെ അവൾ ശപഥം ചെയ്യിരുന്നിട്ടും!! ഓരോ ആഴ്ച്ചയും നാട്ടിലേക്ക് പോകാൻ താൻ വല്ലാതെ സ്ട്രെയിൻ ചെയ്യുന്നതായി തോന്നുന്നു. അവളുടെ കണ്ണുകൾ ക്ഷീണത്താൽ അടഞ്ഞു വരുമ്പോഴും ജനശതാബ്ദി മിസ് ചെയ്യിച്ച സൂപ്രണ്ടിനോടുള്ള കലിപ്പ് കുറഞ്ഞിരുന്നില്ല. അല്ലേൽ രാവിലെ അങ്ങോർ പണി പറ്റിച്ചില്ലാരുന്നേൽ എട്ടര ആകുമ്പോഴേക്ക് വീടു പറ്റാരുന്നു.
“എന്താ കുട്ടി ടൈപ്പു ചെയ്തു വെച്ചതിൽ അപ്പടി തെറ്റാണെല്ലോ”സൂപ്രണ്ട്, മുറുക്കി ചുമപ്പിച്ച ചുണ്ടു കോട്ടി സോഡാ കണ്ണടയിലൂടെ അവളോട് ചോദിച്ചു. ” വീട്ടിൽ പോണ്ട തിരക്കിലാണോ”. വെള്ളിയാഴ്ച്ചത്തെ തന്റെ ജോലി ചെയ്യുന്നതിലുള്ള സ്പീഡ് ഓഫീസിലുള്ളവർ ശ്രദ്ധിച്ചു തുടങ്ങിയതായി തോന്നിയപ്പോൾ അല്പം ജാള്യത തോന്നാതിരുന്നില്ല. ശനിയാഴ്ച്ചത്തെ ജോലി കൂടി തീർക്കേണ്ടതിനാൽ ഫയലുകളുടെ എണ്ണം സ്വഭാവികമായി കൂടും. എല്ലാ സർക്കാർ ആഫീസുകളിലും ഇതു പതിവുള്ള കാര്യമാണെന്ന് അവൾക്കറിയാം. ചെറിയ തെറ്റുകൾ പർവ്വതീകരിക്കുന്ന കക്ഷിയാണ് സൂപ്രണ്ട്. പുള്ളിക്കാരൻ വെള്ളിയാഴ്ച്ചകളിൽ ഉച്ചക്ക് ശേഷം മുങ്ങുന്ന കക്ഷിയുമാണ്. ഇത് പുള്ളി പോകുന്നതിനുൻപ് ഇറങ്ങാതിരിക്കുവാനുള്ള അടവായി അവൾക്ക് തോന്നി. തെറ്റ് കറക്ട് ചെയ്തു കൊണ്ടു വന്നപ്പോഴേക്ക് സൂപ്രണ്ട്, സാറിന്റെ അനുവാദം വാങ്ങി ഇറങ്ങിയിരുന്നു. സാറിന്റെ അനുവാദം വാങ്ങുക എന്നത് ഒരു ബാലികേറാമലയായി പലപ്പോഴും അവൾക്ക് തോന്നിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. തെക്കൻ ജില്ലക്കാരിയായതിനാൽ തനിക്ക് വല്ലപ്പോഴും കിട്ടുന്ന ഇളവ് ഓഫീസിൽ മുറുമുറുപ്പ് ഉണ്ടാക്കുന്നതു ഒഴിവാക്കാൻ താൻ പലപ്പോഴും ലീവ് ലെറ്റർ വെക്കേണ്ടിവരുന്നതിനാൽ മെയ് മാസമായപ്പോഴേക്ക് പകുതി ലീവ് തീർന്നിരിക്കുന്നു. എന്തായാലും വെള്ളിയാഴ്ച്ചയായതിനാൽ പള്ളിയിൽ പോകുന്നതിനുമുൻപ് കണ്ടേക്കാം. അവൾ വാതിലിനടുത്തേക്ക് ചെന്നപ്പോഴേക്കും സാർ സീറ്റിൽ നിന്ന് എഴുനേറ്റിരുന്നു.” എന്താ ആൻസി, എന്തേലും അത്യാവശ്യമുണ്ടോ? അയാളൊര ശ്രംഗാര പടുവായി സീറ്റിൽ അമർന്നിരുന്നത് കണ്ടപ്പോൾ ഉള്ളിൽ ചിരി പൊട്ടി. ഇയാളിന്ന് ഇന്നിനി ഒണക്ക ഡയലോഗുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമെല്ലോ ഈശോയെ!” വീട്ടിൽ പോകാൻ അല്പം നേരത്തെ ഇറങ്ങിക്കോട്ടേ സർ” വിനയം അല്പം പോലും കുറയ്ക്കാതെ ചോദിക്കാൻ താൻ പഠിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.” ഹും ….നിയ്യെന്തിനാണി ധൃതി പിടിച്ചു പോണെ…. വീട്ടിൽ ആരും കാത്തിരിക്കാനൊന്നും ഇല്ലല്ലോ” കൂടെ ദേഹത്തേക്ക് ഒരിഴച്ചിൽ നോട്ടവും. അടി കിട്ടേണ്ട സൂക്കേടാണ് കിളവനെന്ന് ഓർത്തെങ്കിലും അപ്പനെ ശനിയാഴ്ച്ച ഹോസ്പിറ്റലിൽ കാണിക്കണമെന്ന് പറഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ അനുവാദം തന്നു. പക്ഷേ പിന്നേയും അഞ്ചുമിനിറ്റ് അയാളുടെ ബടായ് കേട്ടു നിക്കേണ്ടി വന്നതിനാൽ തൃശ്ശൂർ റെയിൽവേ പ്ലാറ്റ്ഫോമിൽ എത്തിയപ്പോൾ ശതാബ്ദി കാത്തുനിൽക്കാതെ പോയി…….
ചായ, കാപ്പി ക്കാരുടെ കലപിലയാണ് അവളെ ഉറക്കത്തിൽ നിന്നുണർത്തിയത്. വണ്ടിയിൽ ആളുകൾ കുറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു. കോട്ടയം റെയിൽവേ സ്റ്റേഷനിൽ വണ്ടി അല്പം നേരമായി പിടിച്ചിട്ടിരിയ്ക്കുകയാണെന്ന് തോന്നുന്നു. വഞ്ചിനാട് കോട്ടയത്തേക്ക് കയറിയാലേ തെക്കോട്ടു പോകാൻ സിഗ്നൽ വീഴു. എങ്ങനേലും ട്രാൻസ്ഫർ ശരിയാക്കണം. റിക്വസ്റ്റ് കൊടുത്താലും പുറകിൽ നിന്നാലെ ട്രാൻസ്ഫർ ശരിയാകുകയുള്ളു സീറ്റിലേയും അഭിമുഖമായ സീറ്റിലേയും ആളുകൾ എഴുനേറ്റു പോയിരിക്കുന്നു. അവൾ മെല്ലെ നടു നിവർത്തി സീറ്റിലേക്കു ചാഞ്ഞു. വീണ്ടും ഉറക്കം അവളെ തഴുകാൻ തുടങ്ങിയപ്പോഴാണ് വണ്ടിയുടെ ചൂളം വിളി മുഴങ്ങിയത്. വഞ്ചിനാട് സ്റ്റേഷൻ പ്ലാറ്റ്ഫോമിലേക്ക് കയറുന്നതിന്റെ ബഹളമാണ്. ഇനി ഉടനെ പാസ ഞ്ചറിനുള്ള സിഗ്നൽ വീഴുമായിരിക്കും. എൻജിന്റെടു ത്തുള്ള കംപാർട്ട്മെന്റ് ആയതിനാൽ പാസഞ്ചറിന്റെ ചൂളം വിളി കേട്ടു അവൾ ഉറക്കം മതിയാക്കി എഴുനേറ്റിരുന്നു, വണ്ടി മെല്ലേ ഇളകി തുടങ്ങി. കംപാർട്ട്മെന്റിനുള്ളിലേക്ക് അവൾ പിൻ തിരിഞ്ഞു നോക്കി, ആകെ പത്തു മുപ്പതു പേർ കഷ്ടിയെ കാണു. സ്ത്രീകൾ അതിന്റെ അഞ്ചിലൊന്നും. ചിങ്ങവനം കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ കുറച്ചു സീറ്റുകൾ കൂടി കാലിയായന്ന് തോന്നി. അവൾ ബോറടി ഉറങ്ങി തീർക്കാമെന്ന് കരുതിയപ്പോഴാണ് ആരോ എതിരേ വന്നിരിക്കുന്നതായി തോന്നിയത്. അവൾക്ക് എതിരെ വന്നിരിക്കുന്ന ആളെ കണ്ട് ആൻസിക്ക് ഒരങ്കലാപ്പ് തോന്നാതിരുന്നില്ല. ഇതയാളല്ലേ! പണ്ട് താൻ കോളേജിൽ പഠിക്കുന്ന കാലം മുതൽ ട്രെയിനിൽ കാണുന്ന ഒറ്റ കയ്യൻ തമിഴൻ അയാൾ നന്നായി നരച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. അന്നു പലപ്രാവശ്യം അയാൾ ഭിക്ഷ ചോദിച്ചിട്ട് കൊടുക്കാത്തതിന് ഉടക്കുകയും പലരേയും ചീത്തവിളിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തിട്ടുള്ള ആൾ. അന്നൊക്കെ രവിലെ വേണാടിൽ വടക്കോട്ടും രാത്രി തിരിച്ചും സ്ഥിരമായി ഇവരൊക്കെ യാത്ര ചെയ്താണ് ഭിക്ഷാടനം നടത്തിയിരുന്നത്. അന്ന് താനുമായി ഉടക്കിയതിന് തന്റെ നാട്ടുകാർ ആൺകുട്ടികൾ അയാളെ ട്രെയിനിൽ നിന്നും പ്ലാറ്റ്ഫോമിലേക്ക് തെള്ളിയിട്ടിട്ടുമുണ്ട്. വർഷം നാലഞ്ചു കഴിഞ്ഞോണ്ട് അയാൾ അതൊന്നും ഓർക്കാൻ വഴിയില്ല. അവൾ സമാധാനിച്ചു. അയാൾ തന്റെ നേരെ സാകൂതം നോക്കുന്നത് കണ്ടപ്പോൾ ലേശം ഭയം അവളിൽ മൊട്ടിട്ടു. സൗമ്യ ജീവിച്ചിരുന്നത് ഈ നാട്ടിലാണെല്ലോ? അന്ന് ഗോവിന്ദചാമിയുടെ ഫോട്ടോ കാണുന്നവരെ മനസ്സിൽ ഇയാളെ ആയിരുന്നു പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചത്. അവനെ പോലെ ദുഷ്ടനായിരിക്കും ഇവനും. അവൾ പല്ലിറുമി.വീണ്ടും പലപ്പോഴായി അയാളുടെ കണ്ണുകൾ അവളുമായി കോർത്തു കൊണ്ടേയിരുന്നു. വണ്ടി തിരുവല്ല എത്തിയപ്പോൾ ബോഗിയിലെ ആളുകളുടെ എണ്ണം പിന്നേയും ശോഷിച്ചു. അയാളുടെ അക്രമം ഏതെലും രീതിയിൽ വന്നാൽ ആരും കാണുക പോലുമില്ല. കംപാർട്ടുമെന്റിന്റെ എൻജിൻ ഭാഗത്തേയ്ക്കുള്ള പകുതിയിലാണ് ആകെയുള്ള പത്തിൽ താഴെ പേരിൽ ബഹുഭൂരിപക്ഷവും. താനും ഈ ഒറ്റ കയ്യനും ഒന്നോ രണ്ടോ പേരും മാത്രമേ പുറകുവശത്തെ പകുതിയിലുള്ളു. തനിക്ക് നേരെ അയാളിൽ നിന്ന് എന്തെങ്കിലും അതിക്രമം നേരിട്ടാൽ പോലും ഈ ശബ്ദത്തിൽ ആരും അതൊന്നും കേൾക്കുക പോലുമില്ല. മാത്രമല്ല ആൾക്കാർ കൊഴിഞ്ഞു കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുകയുമാണ്. സൗമ്യക്ക് പറ്റിയത് തനിക്ക് പറ്റരുത്. അവൾ ഒരിക്കൽക്കൂടി അയാളെ നോക്കി. അയാൾ കണ്ണടച്ച് പുറകിലേക്ക് ചാരിയിരിക്കുന്നു.അയാൾ ഉറക്കം നടിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന പോലെ അവൾക്ക് തോന്നി. പറ്റിയ സമയം നോക്കിയിരിക്കുകയായിരിക്കും,തന്റെ മേൽ ചാടി വീഴാൻ…… അവൾ മെല്ലെയെഴുനേറ്റ് ബ്യാഗുമടുത്ത് മുൻപിലേക്ക് നടന്നു.
ഡോറിനു തൊട്ടു മുമ്പിലെ ആളുകളിരിക്കുന്ന സീറ്റുകളിൽ ഒന്നിൽ ഇരുപ്പറപ്പിച്ചുവെങ്കിലും അവൾക്ക് ലേശം സമാധാനക്കേട് തോന്നിയിരുന്നു. കായംകുളം ആകുമ്പോഴേക്ക് ഏതാണ്ട് കംപാർട്ട്മെന്റ് കാലിയാകും. അയാൾ ഇങ്ങോട്ടെങ്ങാനും വരുമോ? മൊബൈൽ ആണെങ്കിൽചാർജ് കുറഞ്ഞോണ്ട് ഓഫ് ചെയ്തിരിക്കുകയാണ്.” എവിടെറങ്ങാനാണ്” അവളുടെ അടുത്തിരുന്ന ആഢ്യനായ മധ്യവയസൻ സംസാരിക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങി. അയാൾക്കരികിലിരിക്കുന്ന ഭാര്യ ഇതിലൊന്നും താല്പര്യമില്ലാത്തതുപോലെ വെളിയിലേക്ക് നോക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നു. എതിരായിരിക്കുന്ന യുവാക്കൾ ശ്രദ്ധിക്കുന്നതുകൊണ്ട് ശബ്ദം താഴ്ത്തി അയാളുടെ ചോദ്യങ്ങൾക്ക് മറുപടി കൊടുത്തു കൊണ്ടിരുന്നു. യാതൊരു പരിചയവുമില്ലാത്തവരുമായി അവരുടെ മനോവിചാരങ്ങൾ മനസ്സിലാകാതെ ചലപില സംസാരിക്കുന്നവരെ പണ്ടേ അവൾക്കിഷ്ടമല്ലെങ്കിലും സാഹചര്യം അനിവാര്യമാക്കുന്നതിനാൽ അനിഷ്ടം പുറത്തുകാണച്ചില്ല.
വണ്ടി കായംകുളം പിന്നിടുമ്പോഴേക്ക് സമയം 9.30 മണി കഴിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു. ഇനിയും ഒരു മണിക്കൂറെങ്കിലും ഓടിയാലെ വണ്ടി കൊല്ലത്തെത്തു കംപാർട്മെന്റ് ആകെ ഒഴിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു. താനടക്കമുള്ള ഇവിടിരിക്കുന്ന നാലുപേർ മാത്രമേ ഈ ബോഗിയിലുള്ളുവെന്ന് അവൾക്കു തോന്നി. ഗോവിന്ദ ചാമി കായംകുളത്ത് ഇറങ്ങി കാണുമോ എന്തോ? എഴുനേറ്റ് നിന്ന് നോക്കാൻ അവൾക്ക് മടി തോന്നി. മധ്യവയസ്ക്കനും ഭാര്യയും ഉറക്കം പിടിച്ചന്ന് തോന്നുന്നു. എതിരെ ഇരുന്നവരുടെ ചലപില സംസാരം മാത്രമേ ഇപ്പോൾ ട്രെയിന്റെ ശബ്ദത്തിനിടയിൽ കേൾക്കുന്നുളളു. ഏതോ ഉത്തരേന്ത്യക്കാരാണെന്ന് തോന്നുന്നു. അവൾക്കും ചെറുതായി ഉറക്കം വരുന്നുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. മൊബൈൽ ഓണാക്കി അപ്പനെ വിളിച്ചു വണ്ടി കായംകുളം ജംഗ്ഷൻ പിന്നിട്ട കാര്യം പറഞ്ഞു. കണ്ണിൽ മയക്കം പിടിച്ചു വന്നപ്പോഴാണ് അടുത്തിരുന്ന മധ്യവയസ്കന്റെ ഭാരം തന്റെ മേലിലേക്ക് ചാഞ്ഞു വരുന്നതായി അവൾക്ക് തോന്നിയത്. തോന്നലാണോ അതോ യാഥാർത്ഥ്യമാണോയെന്നറിയാൻ അഞ്ചു മിനിറ്റ് സമയമേ എടുത്തുള്ളു. മധ്യവയസ്ക്കന്റെയും അതു കണ്ടുള്ള ബായി മാരുടേയും സ്നേഹപ്രകടനം കാരണം പാസഞ്ചർ ശാസ്താ കോട്ട വിട്ടപോഴേക്കും അവൾക്ക് ഡോറിനടുത്തേക്കു മാറി നിൽക്കേണ്ടി വന്നു. അവൾക്ക് അല്പം പരവേശം തോന്നാന്നിരുന്നില്ല. വെറുതെ സമയം കൊല്ലാൻ ചാർജ തീരാറായ മൊമ്പൈൽ ഓണാക്കി അതു നോക്കി ഡോറിൽ പിടിച്ചു നിന്ന അവളുടെ ബാഗിൽ ആരോ പിടിച്ചു വലിക്കുന്നതായി തോന്നി അവൾ ഞെട്ടി തിരിഞ്ഞു നോക്കി.!!! ഒറ്റകയ്യൻ പാണ്ടി ചിരിച്ചു കൊണ്ട് നിൽക്കുന്നു…. പെട്ടന്ന് അവളുടെ തലയിലൂടെ ഭയത്തിന്റെ ഒരു കൊല്ലിയാൻ മിന്നി. തന്നെ ഇയാൾ സൗമ്യയെ തള്ളിയിട്ട പോലെ തള്ളി പാളത്തിലിടുമോ? ബോഗിയിൽ ഉള്ള നാലു പേരും ഇങ്ങോട്ടു നോക്കാതെ ഉറങ്ങിയിരുപ്പാണ്!” അമ്മാ സൂക്ഷിച്ച് നില്ല്…. പാളം മാറുമ്പോൾ സ്പീഡിൽ ഡോറു തിരിച്ചടയും….. സീറ്റിൽ ഉക്കാർ” തമിഴൻ കണ്ണൂ തുറിച്ച് ചിരിച്ചു കൈചൂണ്ടി….. അല്പം ഭയന്നതു കൊണ്ടോയെന്തോ അവൾ അനുസരണയോടെ അടുത്ത സീറ്റിലേക്ക് ഇരുന്നു. അഞ്ചാം നമ്പർ പ്ലാറ്റ്ഫോമിൽ പാസഞ്ചറിൽ നിന്ന് പരീക്ഷണ യായി ഇറങ്ങുമ്പോൾ തമിഴൻ ചേട്ടന്റ കൈയിൽ അവളുടെ വിയർപ്പു വീണ് നനഞ്ഞ ഇരുപതു രൂപാ നോട്ട് നാട്ടിലെ പെൺ സുരക്ഷയെ ഓർത്തു നേടുവീർപ്പിട്ടു….
