രാജസതേജസ്സിൻ്റെ കുലീന സൗന്ദര്യം
കുട്ടിക്കാലത്ത് വാഴേങ്കട ശ്രീനരസിംഹ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ഉത്സവത്തിനും സമീപ പ്രദേശങ്ങളായ കാറൽമണ്ണയിലും ചെർപ്പുളശേരിയിലുമൊക്കെ ഉണ്ടാവുന്ന ഉത്സവ അരങ്ങുകളിലേക്ക് കൂട്ടുകാർക്കും വീട്ടുകാർക്കുമൊപ്പം കഥകളി കാണാൻ വർദ്ധിച്ച സന്തോഷത്തോടെ പോയിരുന്ന ഒരു കാലമുണ്ട് ഓർമ്മയുടെ ഏടുകളിൽ .കോട്ടക്കൽ പി.എസ്.വി. നാട്യസംഘത്തിൻ്റേയും കലാമണ്ഡലം സെറ്റിൻ്റേയുമൊക്കെ കഥകളികൾ കണ്ടിരുന്ന ബാല്യകൗമാരകാലം. കഥകളിയുടെ വ്യാകരണശാസ്ത്രങ്ങളൊന്നുമറിയാതെ കളി കാണുക എന്ന ഇഷ്ടത്തോടെ കളിവിളക്കിൻ ചുവട്ടിൽ തന്നെ സ്ഥലം പിടിച്ചിരുന്ന് ഉറക്കമൊഴിച്ച് കളി കണ്ടിരുന്ന കാലം.
കേളികൊട്ട് കേൾക്കുമ്പോഴെ കുന്നിറങ്ങി വരുമ്പോലെയുള്ള ആ വാദ്യ ധ്വനികൾ മനസ്സിൽ ഉത്സവമേളങ്ങൾക്കുള്ള തിരപ്പുറപ്പാട് തുടങ്ങും.പിന്നെ അവിടെയെത്താനുള്ള ധൃതിയാണ്. വാഴേങ്കട നരസിംഹ മൂർത്തി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ഉത്സവക്കാലങ്ങൾക്ക് തന്നെയാണ് അക്കാലത്ത് മുൻഗണനയും . പുറപ്പാടിലെ കൃഷ്ണവേഷങ്ങളിലെ ചാരുത പറഞ്ഞറിയിക്കാനാവില്ല .നിരവധി കലാകാരൻമാരുടെ കൃഷ്ണവേഷങ്ങൾ കണ്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്. എന്നാലന്നത്തെ അരങ്ങു കാഴ്ചകളിൽ നിറഞ്ഞു നിൽക്കുന്ന ഒരു കൃഷ്ണനുണ്ടായിരുന്നു.പുറപ്പാടിലേയും ദുര്യോധനവധത്തിലേയും സുഭദ്രാ ഹരണത്തിലേയുമൊക്കെ സാക്ഷാൽ കൃഷ്ണനാണോ എന്ന് തോന്നിപ്പിക്കുന്ന ഒരു കലാകാരൻ. ഇന്നത്തെ കഥകളിയരങ്ങുകളിലെ രാജസത്തിൻ്റെ പ്രൗഢപ്രതീകമായി മാറിയ ശ്രീ.കോട്ടക്കൽ കേശവൻ കുണ്ടലായർ. അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻ്റേതടക്കം കേരളത്തിൽ കഥകളി കലാകാരൻമാരുടെ വേഷങ്ങൾ വേദിക്ക് മുന്നിലിരുന്ന് കണ്ടിട്ടിപ്പോൾ മുപ്പത് വർഷത്തിലേറെയായി. പ്രവാസ ജീവിതത്തിലെത്തിയ ശേഷം കഥകളിയരങ്ങുകളും വിരളമായി. എന്നാൽ വർത്തമാനകാലത്ത് ഓൺലൈൻ സംവിധാനത്തിലൂടെ യൂട്യൂബിലും മുഖപ്പുസ്തക ലൈവിലൂടേയും കഥകളി ഗ്രൂപ്പുകളിലൂടെയുമൊക്കെ നമുക്ക് വേണ്ട ഏത് കലകളും കാണാൻ സൗകര്യമായപ്പോൾ കഥകളിയരങ്ങുകളും വിരൽത്തുമ്പൊന്നമർത്തിയാൽ വളരെ നിഷ്പ്രയാസം നമുക്ക് മുന്നിലെത്തുന്നു. വേദിക്കഭിമുഖമായിരുന്ന് കളി കാണുന്ന സുഖമില്ലെങ്കിലും ഇങ്ങിനെയെങ്കിലും കാണാലൊ എന്നാശ്വാസം . ഒരൊഴിവ് സമയത്ത് അങ്ങിനെ ഒരരങ്ങ് കാണുമ്പോഴാണ് ഉൽഭവത്തിലെ ചില ഭാഗങ്ങൾ കണ്ടത്. രാവണനായി ആടുന്നത് ശ്രീ.കോട്ടക്കൽ കേശവൻ കുണ്ടലായരെന്ന നടനായിരുന്നു. കുട്ടിക്കാലത്ത്പരിചയമുണ്ടായിരുന്നെങ്കിലും ദീർഘകാലത്തെ വിടവിന് ശേഷം അദ്ദേഹവുമായി സംസാരിച്ച്‌ ആ അരങ്ങു ജീവിതത്തിൻ്റെ അന്വേഷണത്തിലേക്ക് തിരിഞ്ഞു.
കൃഷ്ണവേഷം കെട്ടി കെട്ടി ആ പേരിലേക്ക് താദാത്മ്യം പ്രാപിച്ച് ഇന്ന് രാജസത്തിൽ കലർന്ന രാജകീയ പ്രൗഢിയുടെ രാവണനും നരകാസുരനും ശൗര്യത്തിൻ്റെ പ്രതീകമായ പരശുരാമനുമൊക്കെയായി കഥകളിയാസ്വാദകരുടെ പ്രിയപ്പെട്ട നടനായി മാറിയ കോട്ടക്കൽ കേശവൻ കുണ്ടലായരുടെ കഥകളി ജീവിതത്തിൻ്റെ താളിലേക്കുള്ള എളിയ ശ്രമമാണിത്.
സാധാരണ കേട്ടിട്ടുള്ളതും വായിച്ചിട്ടുള്ളതും കഥകളി പoനത്തിനെത്തുന്ന കുട്ടികളധികവും വീട്ടിലെ ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടുകൾക്കിടയിൽ നിന്നിറങ്ങി വന്നാണ് കഥകളി പoനത്തിന് കച്ചകെട്ടാറുള്ളത്. കഥകളിയെന്ന കഠിനമായ ശിക്ഷണം ലഭിക്കേണ്ട ഈ കലയോടുള്ള താൽപ്പര്യം മാത്രമല്ല പലരുമത് സ്വീകരിക്കാൻ കാരണം. അവരുടെ നിസ്സഹായമായ കുടുംബാന്തരീക്ഷത്തിൻ്റെ ചുറ്റുപാട് കൂടിയാണ്. ഒരു നേരമെങ്കിലും വിശപ്പടക്കുക എന്ന ചിന്തയിലും കൂടിയാണത് പലരുടേയും ജീവിതത്തിൽ സംഭവിക്കുന്നത് . കഥകളി പഠിക്കുന്നിടത്ത് നിന്നും ലഭിക്കുന്ന ഭക്ഷണം. വിശപ്പാണല്ലൊ മനുഷ്യൻ്റെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ ശത്രു. കാരണം കഥകളി പോലെയുള്ള കലകൾ ഏറ്റെടുത്തു നടത്തിയിരുന്നത് അന്നത്തെ പ്രാമാണികരായ ജന്മി കുടുംബങ്ങളായിരിക്കും. അവർക്കേ കഥകളി പോലുള്ള കലയെ ഏറ്റെടുത്ത് നടത്താനുള്ള സാമ്പത്തിക പശ്ചാത്തലങ്ങൾ കാണുകയുള്ളു . അക്കാലത്ത് അങ്ങിനെ പഠിച്ച പലരും കഥകളി രംഗത്തെ പ്രശസ്തരായിത്തീർന്നിട്ടുണ്ട്. പച്ചയായ ജീവിതമറിഞ്ഞവർ. അങ്ങിനെയൊരു കാലത്താണ് കേശവനെന്ന ബാലൻ ആഢ്യത്വത്തിൻ്റേയും സമ്പന്നതയുടേയും പ്രതാപത്തിൻ്റേയും നടുവിൽ നിന്നും കഥകളിയോടുള്ള ഭ്രമവുമായി കോട്ടക്കൽ ആര്യവൈദ്യശാലക്ക് കീഴിലുള്ള പി.എസ്.വി. നാട്യസംഘത്തിലെത്തുന്നത്. ഒപ്പം അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻ്റെ ജ്യേഷ്ഠസഹോദരൻ ശ്രീ.വാസുദേവൻ കുണ്ടലായരും.
1959 ഡിസംബർ 27ന് കാസർകോഡ് ജില്ലയിലെ കാഞ്ഞങ്ങാട് പുല്ലൂരിലുള്ള പ്രസിദ്ധമായ മാക്കരം കോട്ട് ഇല്ലത്താണ് കേശവൻ ജനിച്ചത്. നാരായണൻ കുണ്ടലായരുടേയും കല്യാണിയന്തർജനത്തിൻ്റേയും ഏഴ് മക്കളിൽ അഞ്ചാമത്തെ മകനായി. കഥകളിക്കമ്പക്കാരനായിരുന്ന അച്ഛൻ്റെ വിരലിൽ തൂങ്ങി കുട്ടിക്കാലത്തേ കേശവൻ കഥകളി കണ്ടുതുടങ്ങി. ആ കലയോട് കുഞ്ഞു മനസ്സിൽ അടങ്ങാത്ത അഭിനിവേശവും. പ്രാഥമിക വിദ്യാഭ്യാസത്തിന് ശേഷം കഥകളിമോഹം അറിയിച്ചപ്പോഴും അച്ഛന് മകനെ കഥകളി പഠിപ്പിക്കാൻ പറഞ്ഞയക്കാൻ താൽപ്പര്യമുണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല. കാരണം ആ കല പഠിക്കാനുള്ള കഠിനമായ ശാരീരിക മാനസിക ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടുകൾ തന്നെ കാരണം. പാരമ്പര്യത്തിലെ ഒരു കാരണവർ കഥകളി പഠിച്ചെങ്കിലും അരങ്ങേറ്റം മുറിഞ്ഞുപോയ കഥ കേശവൻ കുണ്ടലായർ സൂചിപ്പിച്ചു.
പ്രസിദ്ധമായ മാക്കരം കോട്ട് ഇല്ലക്കാർ തലമുറകൾക്ക് മുമ്പ് കർണ്ണാടകത്തിൽ നിന്നും കുടിയേറിപ്പാർത്തവരത്രെ. പ്രതാപത്തിൻ്റേയും ആഢ്യത്വത്തിൻ്റേയും സമ്പന്നതയുടേയും കഥകളിയുടേയും ഈററില്ലമായിരുന്നു മാക്കരം കോട്ട് ഇല്ലം. “കുണ്ടലായർ ” എന്നത് ബഹുമാന സൂചകം. (കുണ്ടലായ കർണ്ണാടക ചുവയുള്ള പദം – നമ്പൂതിരി – അതോടൊപ്പം അവർകൾ എന്നർത്ഥമുള്ള ആയർ ചേർക്കുമ്പോൾ കുണ്ടലായർ )കാലക്രമേണ ഈ ഇല്ലക്കാർ കേരളത്തിലെ പ്രസിദ്ധമായ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിലെ മേൽശാന്തിമാരായി നിയോഗിക്കപ്പെട്ടു. അതിനാൽ പൂജാരി ബ്രാഹ്മണൻ്റെ ശുദ്ധിക്കിണങ്ങുന്നതല്ല കഥകളിക്കാരൻ്റെ ജീവിതം എന്ന വിശ്വാസം കൊണ്ടും കൂടിയാണ് മുത്തശ്ശൻ്റെ അരങ്ങേറ്റം നടക്കാതെ പോയത്. മറ്റൊരു കാരണവർ കഥകളിച്ചിത്രം നന്നായി വരക്കുമായിരുന്നു. എന്നാൽ കേശവൻ്റെ താൽപ്പര്യത്തിന് മുമ്പിൽ അച്ഛന് വഴങ്ങേണ്ടി വന്നു.
ഉദയനഗർ ജി.യു.പി. സ്കൂളിൽ പ്രാഥമിക വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം കഴിഞ്ഞ് ഹൈസ്ക്കൂളിൽ ചേരേണ്ട സമയത്താണ് പേപ്പറിൽ ഒരു പരസ്യം കാണാനിടയായത്. കോട്ടക്കൽ പി.എസ്.വി. നാട്യസംഘത്തിൽ വേഷത്തിന് വിദ്യാർത്ഥികളെ എടുക്കുന്നുവെന്ന്. പിന്നെ തിരിച്ചൊരു ചിന്തയുണ്ടായില്ല .മകൻ്റെ താൽപ്പര്യത്തിന് വഴങ്ങി നാരായണൻ കുണ്ടലായർ കേശവനേയും കേശവൻ്റെ ജ്യേഷ്ഠൻ വാസുദേവനേയും കൂട്ടി കോട്ടക്കലിലേക്ക് തിരിച്ചു. സമ്പന്നമായ ഒരു ചുറ്റുപാടിൽ നിന്നും കഥകളിക്കളരിയിലെ ക്ലേശത്തിൻ്റെ മാർഗ്ഗത്തിലേക്ക് മക്കളെ വിടാൻ അച്ഛന് നന്നേ പ്രയാസമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. മക്കളുടെ ഇഷ്ടത്തിന് ആ അച്ഛൻ മുൻതൂക്കം നൽകി. അങ്ങിനെ 1972 ജൂൺ 28 ന് കേശവന് പന്ത്രണ്ട് വയസ്സുള്ളപ്പോൾ കോട്ടക്കൽ ആര്യവൈദ്യശാലയുടെ കീഴിലുള്ള പി..എസ്.വി. നാട്യസംഘത്തിൽ കഥകളി വിദ്യാർത്ഥികളായി ഈ കുട്ടികൾ ചേർന്നു.
പത്മശ്രീ വാഴേങ്കട കുഞ്ചുനായരാശാൻ്റെ പ്രധാന ശിഷ്യരിലൊരാളും നാട്യസംഘത്തിൻ്റെ നെടുന്തൂണുമായിരുന്ന ശ്രീ. കോട്ടക്കൽ കൃഷ്ണൻകുട്ടി നായരാശാൻ്റെ കീഴിൽ അഭ്യാസം തുടങ്ങി. കഥകളിയുടെ കച്ചകെട്ടിയതോടെ ആ കലയുടെ വിവിധ തലങ്ങളെ അറിയാൻ തുടങ്ങി. പഠനത്തിൻ്റെ ക്ലേശമൊന്നും കഥകളിയോടുള്ള ആകർഷണം കാരണം അധികമറിഞ്ഞില്ല. സാധാരണ അഭ്യാസ കാഠിന്യം കൊണ്ട് ആ പ്രായം കുട്ടികളൊക്കെ കളിപOനം വിട്ട് പോവാറുണ്ട്. എന്നാൽ കേശവനെ സംബന്ധിച്ചിടത്തോളം നിലവിലുള്ള ജീവിത സൗകര്യങ്ങളെ നിഷേധിച്ച് സ്വയം ഇഷ്ടപ്പെട്ട് ഇറങ്ങിത്തിരിച്ചത് കൊണ്ട് ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടുകളുമായും സമരസപ്പെടാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞു. അത് ഭാവിയിലെ നല്ലൊരു കലാകാരനിലേക്കുള്ള വളർച്ചയുടെ തുടക്കമായി. ഭൗതിക സുഖങ്ങളല്ലല്ലൊ ഒരു യഥാർത്ഥ കലാകാരനാഗ്രഹിക്കുക. കലയുടെ ആത്മീയമായ ഉയരത്തിലേക്കാണവരുടെ സഞ്ചാരം. ജന്മവാസനയുടെ നിയോഗമായാരിക്കാമത്.
കല്ലുവഴിച്ചിട്ടയുടെ ബൃഹത്തായ കളരി പരമ്പരയുടെ നെടുനായകത്വം നേടിയ കൃഷ്ണൻകുട്ടി നായരുടെ കറ കളഞ്ഞ ശിക്ഷണത്തിൽ കേശവനിലെ കലാകാരനുണർന്നു. ചിട്ടയും താളവും ആത്മാർത്ഥതയും പഠനത്തിന് മാറ്റ് കൂട്ടി. സവിശേഷമായ കഥകളിയഭ്യാസത്തിലൂടെ 1972 ജൂണിൽ ചേർന്ന കേശവൻ അക്കൊല്ലം തന്നെ നവംബർ 22 ന് വൃശ്ചികമാസത്തിലെ നാട്യസംഘം നിറമാലക്ക് കോട്ടക്കൽ വിശ്വംഭര ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ കല്യാണ സൗഗന്ധികത്തിലെ ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണനായി ( പരിതപിക്കരുതേ പാണ്ഡവന്മാരെ -എന്ന പദം) അരങ്ങേറ്റം കുറിച്ചു എന്നത് ചെറിയ കാര്യമല്ല. പOന കാലത്ത് എല്ലാ കുട്ടിത്തരം വേഷങ്ങളും ചെയ്യാനുള്ള തഴക്കം സിദ്ധിച്ചു.അന്നത്തെ അരങ്ങുകളിലെ കൃഷ്ണ സാന്നിധ്യമായിരുന്നു. കൃഷ്ണ വേഷത്തിലന്ന് അറിയപ്പെടുകയും ചെയ്തിരുന്നു. കൃഷ്ണൻകുട്ടി നായരാശാനൊപ്പം അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻ്റെ സമകാലികരായിരുന്ന കോട്ടക്കൽ ഗോപിനായർ കോട്ടക്കൽ അപ്പുനായർ മങ്ങാട്ട് നാരായണൻ നായർ എന്നിവരും കൃഷ്ണൻ കുട്ടി നായരാശാൻ്റെ തന്നെ ശിഷ്യസ്ഥാനീയരിൽ പ്രമുഖരായ കോട്ടക്കൽ കുട്ടിക്കൃഷ്ണൻ നായർ, ശംഭു ആശാൻ ,ചന്ദ്രശേഖരവാരിയരാശാൻ എന്നിവരുടേയും ശിക്ഷണം ലഭിച്ചു. എട്ടു കൊല്ലത്തെ പOനം കഴിഞ്ഞ് രണ്ട് വർഷം ഉപരി പഠനവും പൂർത്തിയാക്കിയ ശേഷം 1983 ജനുവരി ഒന്നിന് നാട്യസംഘത്തിലെ സ്ഥിരാംഗമായി നിയമനം ലഭിച്ചു. കളരിയിലെ നിഷ്ക്കർഷതയുള്ള അധ്യാപകനായി. ഗുരുനാഥൻ്റെ കണിശമായ അച്ചടക്ക ബോധവും ചിട്ടയായ ശിക്ഷണവും പിൻതുടർന്ന പ്രധാനാധ്യാപകനായും ഔദ്യോഗിക ജീവിതം തുടർന്നു.
ഇടത്തരം വേഷങ്ങളും ആദ്യാവസാനവേഷങ്ങളും കെട്ടിത്തുടങ്ങി. 1980 ൽ വിജയദശമി ദിവസമാണ് ആദ്യമായി കല്യാണ സൗഗന്ധികത്തിലെ ഭീമനായി ആദ്യാവസാനവേഷം കെട്ടിയത്.
ആദ്യകാലത്തെ കൃഷ്ണ വേഷത്തിന് ശേഷം നായക പ്രധാനമായ പച്ചവേഷങ്ങളും രാജസ പ്രധാനമായ കത്തിവേഷങ്ങളും സീതാസ്വയംവരത്തിലെ പരശുരാമനും ആദ്യാവസാനസ്ത്രീവേഷങ്ങളും കേശവൻ കുണ്ടലായരുടെ കയ്യിൽ തിളങ്ങി. സ്ത്രീ വേഷങ്ങളിൽ കൂടുതൽ പൂതനാമോക്ഷത്തിലെ പൂതന, നളചരിതം ഒന്നിലേയും നാലിലേയും ദമയന്തി കചദേവയാനി ചരിതത്തിലെ ദേവയാനി എന്നീ വേഷങ്ങളും എടുത്തു പറയേണ്ടവയാണ്.
നിഷ്ക്കർഷയോടെ നീണ്ട കാലത്തെ അഭ്യാസത്തിലൂടെ ലഭിച്ച കൈത്തഴക്കത്തിൻ്റെ സൗന്ദര്യം അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻ്റെ വേഷങ്ങളിൽ പ്രതിഫലിക്കുന്നുവെന്ന് കഥകളിയാസ്വാദക വൃന്ദം ഒരു പോലെ അഭിപ്രായപ്പെടുന്നു. ഏത് സന്ദർഭങ്ങളേയും അരങ്ങത്ത് സാധ്യതകളാക്കി മാറ്റാനുള്ള കഴിവ് ഈ കലാകാരനുണ്ട്. കേശവൻ കുണ്ടലായരുടെ കാലകേയവധത്തിലെ നായക കഥാപാത്രമായ അർജ്ജുനനേയും നരകാസുരവധത്തിലെ ചെറിയ നരകാസുരനേയും ,ഉൽഭവത്തിലേയും ബാലിവിജയത്തിലേയും രാവണനേയും ശിശുപാലനേയും, (ഉദ്ധത നായകൻമാർ) പരശുരാമനേയും കുറിച്ച് വിലയിരുത്തുമ്പോൾ അഭ്യാസത്തിൻ്റെ സംസ്കാരത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻ്റെ കാണികൾ വാചാലരാവുന്നു. ഏത് വേഷമാണെങ്കിലും യാതൊരു വിധ അതിഭാവുകത്വവുമേശാതെ തികഞ്ഞ അച്ചടക്കത്തോടെ ചിട്ടയിൽ കടുകിടെ തെറ്റാതെ രംഗ പ്രയോഗക്ഷമമാക്കി ആത്മസമർപ്പണം ചെയ്യുന്ന കലാകാരൻ. മനയോലപ്പറ്റിൻ്റെ അന്യാദൃശ്യസൗന്ദര്യം .പച്ചയാണെങ്കിലും കത്തിയാണെങ്കിലും മിനുക്കാണെങ്കിലും കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളുടെ രൂപ സ്വഭാവങ്ങളോട് ഇണങ്ങുന്ന കുലീനത ആ മുഖത്ത് ദൃശ്യമാകുന്നു. അധ്വാനമേറിയ വേഷങ്ങൾ കെട്ടുന്നതിന് മുമ്പ് മാനസികവും ശാരീരികവുമായ മുന്നൊരുക്കങ്ങളിലേക്ക് പരകായങ്ങളിലേക്ക് മനസ്സ് സഞ്ചരിക്കുന്നു. കത്തിവേഷങ്ങളിൽ പ്രസരിക്കുന്ന അസാമാന്യമായ രാജസതേജസ്സ്. തപസ്സാട്ടം , പടപ്പുറപ്പാട്, കേകിയാട്ടം തുടങ്ങി അധ്വാനമേറിയ ആട്ടങ്ങൾക്ക് ശേഷവും തുടർന്നു വരുന്ന പദങ്ങളുടെ ചൊല്ലിയാട്ടത്തിൽ പ്രകടിപ്പിക്കുന്ന നിഷ്ക്കർഷയും അനായാസതയും നീണ്ട കാലത്തെ അഭ്യാസ ബലത്തിൻ്റെ ഫലശ്രുതിയുടെ ഓജസ്സാണെന്നവർ സാക്ഷ്യപ്പെടുത്തുന്നു.
