ജീവിതത്തിൽ പല ഉന്മാദാവസ്ഥകളും ഉണ്ട്. മനസ്സിൻ്റെ തരംഗദൈർഘ്യങ്ങൾ പല തോതിലാണല്ലൊ. മറ്റുള്ളവരെ നോക്കി അവൾക്ക്/അവന് ഭ്രാന്താണെന്ന് പറയുമ്പോൾ സ്വയം ഉള്ളിലേക്ക് നോക്കുന്നതും നല്ലതാണ്. അങ്ങിനെ പറയുന്നവരിലും ഭ്രാന്തിന്റെ അംശങ്ങൾ കാണാം. ബോധം നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ട ഭീകരമായ ഒരു ഭ്രാന്താവസ്ഥയല്ലാതെ എല്ലാവരിലും ഉന്മാദത്തിൻ്റെ പല അംശങ്ങൾ പതിയിരിക്കുന്നുണ്ടെന്നത് ഒരു വാസ്തവമാണ് . സർഗ്ഗാത്മകതയുള്ളവരിൽ ഉന്മാദത്തിന്റെ അനുപാതം കൂടിയിരിക്കും. ഉള്ളിലുള്ള വിഷയങ്ങൾക്കനുസരിച്ച് ഏറ്റക്കുറച്ചിലുകളും സംഭവിക്കാം.സർഗ്ഗാത്മകതയിൽ മനസ്സ് അഭിരമിക്കുമ്പോൾ ബാഹ്യലോകങ്ങളൊ വിശ്വാസസംഹിതകളൊ പ്രത്യയശാസ്ത്രങ്ങളൊ ഒന്നും ഉൾക്കൊണ്ടെന്നു വരില്ല. ഘടകവിരുദ്ധമായ എതിർദിശകളിലേക്ക് മനസ്സ് സഞ്ചരിച്ചെന്നു വരാം. സ്ത്രീകളിൽ പലരിലും ഇത് പലതരത്തിലും അനുഭവപ്പെടാം എന്ന് മനഃശാസ്ത്രപഠനങ്ങൾ നിരീക്ഷിക്കുന്നു. വെറും വീട്ടമ്മയായ ഒരു സ്ത്രീക്ക് അവളുടെ ഉള്ളിലുള്ള വിഹ്വലതകളെ താൻ ചെയ്യുന്ന വീട്ടുജോലികളിലൂടെ പുറത്തേക്കൊഴുക്കുന്നു. ഒരെഴുത്തുകാരിയെ സംബന്ധിച്ച് അവളുടെ രചനകളിലൂടെ അതു വെളിപ്പെടുത്തുന്നു. ഒരു നർത്തകിയോ ഗായികയോ ആവുമ്പോൾ പുതിയ നൃത്തചലനങ്ങളും രാഗതാളങ്ങളും മനസ്സിനെ തൊട്ടുണർത്തുന്നു. ചിത്രകാരിയെങ്കിൽ വർണ്ണങ്ങളുടെ ഛായാചിത്രങ്ങൾ ജീവിതമാകുന്ന ക്യാൻവാസിൽ തെളിയുന്നു. സ്ത്രീയുടെ ഭ്രാന്തിനെ പലപ്പോഴും അവളുടെ വൈകാരികതലങ്ങളിലെ വിഭ്രമാത്മകതയുടെ വേലിയേറ്റവുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെടുത്തി കാണാം.ഒരു സ്ത്രീ ഒറ്റപ്പെടുമ്പോൾ അവൾ സ്വയം ഒരു സാങ്കല്പ്പികസ്ത്രീയായി ബോധമനസ്സ് കാണുകയും അവളോട് തന്നെ അപരയോടെന്നതുപോലെ സംസാരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. ഇതിനെ മനോരോഗമായി സമൂഹം കാണാറുണ്ട്,. 1892 ൽ അമേരിക്കൻ കഥാകാരിയായ ഷാർലറ്റ് പെർക്കിൻസ് ഗിൽമാനെഴുതിയ “യെല്ലോ വോൾ പേപ്പർ” എന്ന കഥ ഈ അഭിപ്രായത്തെ സാധൂകരിക്കുന്നതാണ്. എഴുതാനും വായിക്കാനും ഇഷ്ടമായ അതിലെ സ്ത്രീകഥാപാത്രത്തിന് അതിനുള്ള സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യം വിലക്കുകയും അവളെ പൂട്ടിയിടുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നതിലൂടെ അവൾ മനോരോഗിയെന്ന അവസ്ഥയിലേക്കെത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. പിന്നീടുള്ള അവളുടെ കാഴ്ചകളിൽ പഴകി മഞ്ഞച്ച ഒരു ചുമർകടലാസിൽ ഒരു രൂപം തെളിയുന്നതായി തോന്നുകയും ആ രൂപം പിന്നീട് ജയിലലടക്കപ്പെട്ട ഒരു സ്ത്രീയായി ആ കഥാപാത്രത്തിനു അനുഭവപ്പെടുകയും അവരുമായി സംവദിക്കാനും തുടങ്ങുന്നു. അവനവനോട് തന്നെ സംസാരിക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങുന്നതിലൂടെ ഉന്മാദം മൂർദ്ധന്യത്തിലെത്തുന്നു. ഏകാന്തതയിൽ ഒറ്റപ്പെടുമ്പോൾ ഒരു പക്ഷെ മനസ്സ് തീവ്രമായ ഒരവസ്ഥയിലെത്തിപ്പെടാം. അസ്വാഭാവികതയോടെയാണ് സമൂഹം ഈയവസ്ഥയെ വീക്ഷിക്കുക. പിന്നീട് ആ സ്ത്രീ ചുമർ പൊളിച്ച് പുറത്തുവരികയും നിലത്തിഴയുന്നതായും അനുഭവപ്പെടുന്നു. ഇതു മനസ്സിന്റെ പരകായങ്ങളാണ്. ഇത് മറെറാരു സ്ത്രീയല്ല ഇവിടെ കഥാനായിക തന്നെയാണ് നിലത്തിഴയുന്നത്.
