ഒരുപാട് അനുഭവിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടുതന്നെ ആദ്യമാദ്യം പുതിയ ഓർഫണേജിലെ ആളുകളെപ്പോലും ആ കുട്ടികൾക്ക് ഭയമായിരുന്നു… പക്ഷെ സെന്റ് സെബാസ്റ്റ്യൻ ഓർഫണേജ് നടത്തിക്കൊണ്ടുപോന്നിരുന്ന കന്യാസ്ത്രീകൾ വളരെ സ്നേഹമുള്ളവരായിരുന്നു… അവരുടെ സ്നേഹവും കാരുണ്യവും കണ്ട ആ നാലുപേർക്കും അവരോട് വിശ്വാസമായി… പതിയെ പതിയെ അവർ അവിടത്തെ കുട്ടികളായി… പക്ഷെ അതിന് വർഷങ്ങൾ വേണ്ടിവന്നു….
അക്കൂട്ടത്തിലെ ബാക്കി മൂന്നുപേരും ഓർമ്മ വെക്കുന്നതിന് മുന്നേ തന്നെ അനാഥലയത്തിൽ തന്നെയായിരുന്നു.. അമ്മത്തൊട്ടിലിൽ ഉപേക്ഷിക്കപ്പെട്ട കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങൾ…. പക്ഷെ അലൻ അങ്ങനെയായിരുന്നില്ല … കടം കയറി മാതാപിതാക്കൾ ആത്മഹത്യചെയ്തപ്പോൾ ഒറ്റപ്പെട്ടുപോയ ഒരു പാവം ചെക്കൻ… ആ സമയം സ്കൂളിലായിരുന്ന അലൻ സ്വന്തം വീട്ടിലെത്തിയപ്പോൾ കണ്ടത് തൂങ്ങിയാടുന്ന അപ്പന്റെയും അമ്മയുടെയും ശവശരീരങ്ങളായിരുന്നു… അന്ന് കരയാൻ പോലും മറന്ന് ഭ്രാന്തിന്റെ തൊട്ടടുത്ത് വരെ എത്തിയ ആ കുഞ്ഞുമനസിന് ഒറ്റപ്പെടലിൽ നിന്ന് രക്ഷനൽകിയത് ജെയ്സൺ അച്ചനായിരുന്നു…
അച്ചനായിരുന്നു ആ അനാഥാലയത്തിന്റെ തുടക്കക്കാരൻ… പതിയെ സങ്കടങ്ങൾ മറന്ന് വന്ന അവനെ വീണ്ടും ഭയപ്പെടുത്തിക്കൊണ്ട് ഒരുദിവസം ജെയ്സൺ അച്ചൻ കൊല്ലപ്പെട്ടു… ഓർഫണേജിന് മൊത്തം അതൊരു ഷോക്ക് ആയിരുന്നെങ്കിലും ഏറ്റവും കൂടുതൽ ബാധിച്ചത് അലനെയാണ്… വീണ്ടും ഒരു പിതാവ് നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ട വേദന…
പിന്നീട് വന്ന അധികാരികളുടെ ക്രൂരത കൂടിയായപ്പോൾ അവൻ ലോകത്തെ തന്നെ ഭയപ്പെട്ടുതുടങ്ങി… അവന് ഉറക്കം നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടു… വീണ്ടും പഴയ അവസ്ഥയിലേക്ക് വീഴുമെന്നുള്ള സമയത്താണ് അവർ അറസ്റ്റിലാവുന്നതും ഇങ്ങോട്ട് മാറുന്നതും… പക്ഷെ അപ്പോഴേക്കും അവന്റെ മനസ്സ് അവന്റെ കയ്യിൽ നിന്ന് വഴുതിപ്പോയിരുന്നു…
ഇതെല്ലാം കൊണ്ടുതന്നെ മറ്റുള്ളവരുടെ അടുത്ത് ചിരിച്ച് കളിച്ച് നടക്കുമെങ്കിലും ഒറ്റക്കാവുന്ന സമയത്ത് അവന് ഒരുപാട് പ്രശ്നങ്ങളുണ്ടായി…. ഏകാന്തതയെ അവൻ വല്ലാതെ ഭയപ്പെട്ടു…
പുതിയ ഓർഫനേജിലെ ചില തണുത്ത രാത്രികളിലെ ഇളം കാറ്റിനോപ്പം “മോനെ…!!” എന്നൊരു വിളി അവൻ കേട്ടുതുടങ്ങി… ചിലരാത്രികളിൽ താരാട്ടുപാട്ടുകളോളം നേർത്ത ഇമ്പമുള്ള പാട്ടുകൾ പോലും അവൻ കേട്ടു…. അപ്പോഴെല്ലാം അവൻ തലയിണ കൊണ്ട് ചെവിപൊത്തി കണ്ണടച്ച് കിടന്നു…. പക്ഷെ ഉറക്കത്തിലും അവന് രക്ഷയുണ്ടായില്ല… അമ്മ ഉറക്കത്തിൽ വരുന്നു… അവനെ കൊഞ്ചിക്കുന്നു.. ഓമനിക്കുന്നു.. അവൻ കൊതിയോടെ ഒരു കൊച്ചുകുഞ്ഞായി അവരുടെ കാലിൽ കിടക്കും … അമ്മ അവന്റെ തലയിൽ തലോടും..
പക്ഷെ പെട്ടന്ന് ആ കാലുകൾക്ക് തണുപ്പ് വരും… അതെല്ലാം ജീർണ്ണിച്ച് അഴുത്ത് ദുർഗന്ധം വരും… മുകളിലേക്ക് നോക്കുമ്പോൾ സുന്ദരമായ അമ്മയുടെ മുഖത്തിന് പകരം കഴുത്തൊടിഞ്ഞ വികൃതമായ ഒരു രൂപം അവനെനോക്കി ചിരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കും… അവൻ ഞെട്ടി എഴുന്നേൽക്കും… പല രാത്രികളിലും ഇത് തുടർന്നു.. അവനിത് ആരോടെങ്കിലും പറയണമെന്നുണ്ടായിരുന്നു…. പക്ഷെ ആ അവസ്ഥ മൂലം ചിലപ്പോൾ അവിടെ നിന്ന് കൂടെയുള്ളവരെയെല്ലാം വിട്ടുപോവണ്ടിവരുമോ എന്നവൻ ഭയന്നു…. അതുകൊണ്ട് അവൻ ആരോടും പറഞ്ഞില്ല….
അങ്ങനെയിരിക്കെ ഒരുദിവസം ഓർഫണേജിലെ കുട്ടികളും സിസ്റ്റേഴ്സും കൂടി അടുത്തുള്ള പള്ളിയും അതിന് പുറകിലുള്ള സ്ഥലങ്ങളും വൃത്തിയാക്കാൻ ഇറങ്ങി… മാസത്തിൽ ഒരിക്കൽ അങ്ങനെയൊരു ജോലി ഉള്ളതാണ്… കുട്ടികൾക്കെല്ലാം അത് ചെയ്യാനും ഉത്സാഹമാണ്.. കാരണം അന്ന് വൈകിട്ട് വികാരിയച്ചന്റെ വക എന്തെങ്കിലും സ്പെഷ്യൽ ഭക്ഷണം ഉറപ്പാണ്…
പള്ളിയോട് ചേർന്നാണ് ഓർഫണേജും കന്യാസ്ത്രീമഠവും പള്ളിസെമിത്തേരിയും… പള്ളിയുടെ കൂട്ടത്തിൽ ഒരുവശം കാടുകയറിക്കിടക്കുന്ന സെമിത്തേരിയും വൃത്തിയാക്കാം എന്ന് കരുതി ഒരു സിസ്റ്ററും അഞ്ച് കുട്ടികളും അങ്ങോട്ട് കയറി… ആക്കൂട്ടത്തിൽ അലനും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു… കാട് പിടിച്ച് കിടന്ന പഴയ ചില കല്ലറകളും മണ്ണും പൊടിയും മാത്രമായി കിടന്നവയും അവർ വൃത്തിയാക്കി… അലനും അതെല്ലാം ആസ്വദിച്ചു… ചിന്തകളെ അകറ്റാൻ കിട്ടുന്ന ജോലികളെല്ലാം അവൻ ചെയ്തിരുന്നു..
ഓരോ കല്ലറകളായി വൃത്തിയാക്കി വരുമ്പോൾ പെട്ടന്നാണ് അലൻ അത് ശ്രദ്ധിച്ചത്… കാട് പിടിച്ച് കിടന്ന ഒരു പഴയ കുഴിമാടത്തിന്റെ കുരിശിലുള്ള ആ പേര്…
‘ഇതൊരു സിസ്റ്ററിന്റെ കുഴിയാണല്ലോ…!!’ അവൻ മനസിലോർത്തു… എന്നിട്ട് അവൻ ബാക്കിയുള്ള കല്ലറകൾ ഒന്ന് നോക്കി… എല്ലാം മാർബിളിലും കല്ലിലും പണിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു.. എന്നാൽ ആ സിസ്റ്ററിന്റെ കുഴിമാടത്തിൽ മണ്ണ് മാത്രമേയുള്ളു അതും നിരപ്പായി തുടങ്ങിയത്… സാധാരണ ആളുകളെ അടക്കുന്ന സ്ഥലത്ത് മണ്ണ് കൂട്ടിയാവും ഉണ്ടാവുക….
അവനെന്തോ വലിയ വിഷമം തോന്നി… തന്നെ മകനെപ്പോലെ സ്നേഹിക്കുന്ന സിസ്റ്റർമാരെപ്പോലെ ഒരു കന്യാസ്ത്രീ ആയിരുന്നില്ലേ ഇതും…. പക്ഷെ ആരും ശ്രദ്ധിക്കാതെ ഇങ്ങനെ കിടക്കുന്നു അതിൽ അവന് സങ്കടം തോന്നി….
അവൻ തൂമ്പ കൊണ്ട് ചുറ്റുമുള്ള മണ്ണ് രണ്ടിഞ്ച് ഉയരത്തിൽ ഒരു കുഴിമാടത്തിന്റെ രീതിയിൽ കൂട്ടിയിട്ട് അത് ഒരു ചെറിയ കല്ലറപോലെ ഒരുക്കി… മണ്ണുകൊണ്ട് ഒരു ചെറിയ കല്ലറ… അവന് സ്വയം ഒരു തൃപ്തി തോന്നി… അതിനടുത്ത് എവിടെയൊ പൂത്തുനിന്ന ഒരു കുഞ്ഞ് ചുവപ്പ് പൂവും അവൻ ആ കുഴിമാടത്തിൽ വെച്ചു….
‘കൊള്ളാം ഇപ്പൊ ഒരു ഭംഗിയൊക്കെയുണ്ട്…!!” അവൻ ഒരു കൊച്ചുകുഞ്ഞിനെപ്പോലെ സ്വയം പറഞ്ഞു…
അപ്പോഴേക്കും കൂടെ വന്ന സിസ്റ്ററും ബാക്കിയുള്ളവരും പോയിക്കഴിഞ്ഞിരുന്നു…
“ടാ നീ അവിടെ എന്തെടുക്കുവാ വാ അവിടെ വിളിക്കുന്നു…!!” ആ സമയം അവനെ അന്വേഷിച്ച് വന്ന ബെഞ്ചമിൻ കുറച്ചകലെ നിന്നവനെ വിളിച്ചു… അലന്റെ മറുപടിക്ക് കാത്തുനിൽക്കാതെ അവൻ പോവുകയും ചെയ്തു..
“ഞാനിടയ്ക്കിടെ വരാം….!!” എന്ന് സിസ്റ്ററുടെ കുഴിമാടത്തിനെ നോക്കി പറഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ട് അലനും തിരികെ പോയി….
അവന്റെ വരവോടുകൂടി, മണ്ണോടുമണ്ണായി ചേരാൻ മണ്ണിലലിഞ്ഞവളുടെ കാലങ്ങളുടെ കാത്തിരിപ്പിന് വിരാമമിട്ടെന്ന പോലെ, അന്ന് പുതുമഴപെയ്ത് ആ മണ്ണ് വീണ്ടും നനഞ്ഞു….
അന്ന് രാത്രി പതിവ് ദുസ്വപ്നങ്ങളോ ശബ്ദങ്ങളോ ഇല്ലാതെ ശാന്തനായി ഉറങ്ങുകയായിരുന്നു അലൻ… ഓർഫനേജിലെ ആ വലിയ ഡോർമെറ്ററിയിൽ എല്ലാ ലൈറ്റുകളും ഓഫ്‌ ആയിരുന്നെങ്കിലും അകത്തേക്കു കടന്നുവന്ന നിലാവെളിച്ചതിൽ അകത്തെ കാഴ്ചകൾ വ്യക്തമായിരുന്നു… അവിടെ ഏറ്റവും അറ്റത്തെ കട്ടിലിൽ ശാന്തമായ മുഖത്തോടുകൂടി ഇടത് വശംചേർന്നു ചെരിഞ്ഞ് ഉറങ്ങുന്ന അലൻ…
പക്ഷെ പെട്ടന്ന് അവന് ഉണർച്ചവീണു… അവൻ കണ്ണൊന്നു തിരുമ്മി പുതപ്പ് ദേഹത്തേക്ക് വലിച്ചിട്ട് വലത്തേക്ക് ചെരിഞ്ഞ് കിടന്നു… ആ തിരിയലിന് ഇടയിൽ എപ്പോഴോ അവന്റെ കണ്ണുകൾ ഒന്ന് തുറന്നടഞ്ഞു…. ആ ഒരു സെക്കന്റിന്റെ ദൈർഘ്യത്തിൽ കണ്ട കാഴ്ച അവനെക്കൊണ്ട് വീണ്ടും കണ്ണുതുറപ്പിച്ചു…
നീളത്തിൽ കട്ടിലുകൾ നിരയായി ഇട്ടിരുന്ന ഡോർമെറ്ററിയിൽ ഏതോ കട്ടിലിൽ ഒരു സിസ്റ്റർ ഇരിക്കുന്നു… നിലാവെളിച്ചതിൽ കന്യാസ്ത്രീകളുടെ തവിട്ട് നിറമുള്ള വസ്ത്രം കണ്ടെങ്കിലും മുഖം വ്യക്തമായില്ല… ആരുടെ കട്ടിലിലാണ് അവർ ഇരിക്കുന്നതെന്നും അറിയില്ല…
അവൻ കട്ടിലിൽ എഴുന്നേറ്റിരുന്നു.. പക്ഷെ അവർ അതൊന്നും ശ്രദ്ധിക്കുന്നില്ല… അവൻ ആ രൂപത്തെ തന്നെ നോക്കി … അത് കട്ടിലിലേക്ക് പതിയെ കൈകൾ നീട്ടുന്നു..
“സീമ സിസ്റ്റർ…!!” ഏകദേശം രൂപം കൊണ്ട് സീമ സിസ്റ്ററെപ്പോലെ തോന്നിയതുകൊണ്ട് അവൻ വിളിച്ചു…
പക്ഷെ അത് കേട്ടതും ആ സിസ്റ്റർ വെടികൊണ്ടപോലെ ചാടിയെഴുന്നേറ്റു… ഒരു രണ്ട് സെക്കന്റ്‌ അങ്ങനെ നിന്ന് അവർ പുറത്തേക്ക് നടന്നു…
ദേഹത്തെ പുതപ്പ് മാറ്റി കട്ടിലിലേക്കിട്ട് അവരുടെ പിന്നാലെ അവനും എഴുന്നേറ്റു… സ്വിച്ച് ബോർഡിന് അടുത്ത് ചെന്ന് ലൈറ്റ് ഇടാൻ തുനിഞ്ഞെങ്കിലും വേണ്ടെന്ന് വിചാരിച്ച് അവൻ കൈ പിൻവലിച്ചു… ആരെങ്കിലും എഴുന്നേറ്റാലോ… പിന്നെ പോരാത്തതിന് നല്ല നിലാവെളിച്ചവും ഉണ്ട്‌… ആരാണ് ആ വന്നതെന്ന് അറിയണം എന്നവന് തോന്നി… അവൻ പിന്നാലെ പോയി…
അതിന് രണ്ട് കാരണങ്ങളുണ്ട് പണ്ട് മുൻപത്തെ ഓർഫനേജിൽ രാത്രിയാവുമ്പോ ഇതുപോലെ കട്ടിലിനടുത്ത് വന്നിരുന്ന് അനാവശ്യമായി ദേഹത്ത് പിടിക്കുന്ന സ്വഭാവമുള്ള ആളുകളുണ്ടായിരുന്നു… പക്ഷെ ഇവിടെ അങ്ങനെ ഉണ്ടാവില്ല… പോരാത്തതിന് ഒരു സിസ്റ്ററും…
അതിലെ രണ്ടാമത്തെ കാരണമായിരുന്നു അവനെ അവരുടെ പിന്നാലെ പോവാൻ കൂടുതൽ പ്രേരിപ്പിച്ചത്… അവൻ കണ്ടത് ആ ഓർഫണേജിലെ സിസ്റ്ററെ അല്ല… അവിടത്തെ എല്ലാവരെയും അവന് നല്ല നിശ്ചയമാണ്.. ആദ്യം സീമ സിസ്റ്ററെപ്പോലെ തോന്നിയെങ്കിലും നടത്തത്തിൽ നിന്ന് സിസ്റ്ററല്ല എന്ന് പിന്നെ മനസിലായി…
അവന് ഏകദേശം ഇരുപത് അടി മുന്നിലായി അവർ നടന്നു… പിന്നാലെ അവനും… അവർ ഓർഫനേജിലെ വാതിലും കടന്ന് മുറ്റത്തേക്ക് ഇറങ്ങിയപ്പോഴാണ് അവന്റെ സംശയം ശെരിയാണെന്ന് അവന് പൂർണ്ണ ബോധ്യമായത്…
ആ സിസ്റ്റർ വരാന്തയും കടന്ന് മുറ്റത്തേക്കിറങ്ങി പള്ളിയെ ലക്ഷ്യമാക്കി നടന്നു… പക്ഷെ എന്തുകൊണ്ടോ അലൻ അവരുടെ പിന്നാലെ പോയില്ല… സത്യത്തിൽ താൻ സ്വപ്നത്തിലാണോ യാഥാർഥ്യത്തിലാണോ എന്നറിയാത്ത അവസ്ഥയിലായിരുന്നു അവൻ…
പെട്ടന്ന് ആ സിസ്റ്റർ അവിടെ നിന്നു… അതുകണ്ട അലൻ ആ വരാന്തയിൽ നിന്നൊന്ന് ഞെട്ടി… സിസ്റ്റർ പതിയെ അവനുനേരെ തിരിഞ്ഞു… അലന്റെ കണ്ണുകൾ വികസിച്ചുവന്നു… മുറ്റത്തെ നിലാവെളിച്ചത്തിൽ അവൻ കണ്ടു…
കന്യസ്ത്രീകളുടെ തവിട്ട് നിറത്തിലുള്ള അങ്കിയും തലയിൽ കറുത്ത ശിരോവസ്ത്രവും ധരിച്ച സുന്ദരിയായ ഒരു സിസ്റ്റർ… പക്ഷെ സൗന്ദര്യം ആസ്വദിക്കാനുള്ള അവസ്ഥയിലായിരുന്നില്ല അലൻ… മണ്ണ് പുരണ്ട, അങ്ങിങ്ങായി കീറിയ വസ്ത്രം ധരിച്ച അവരുടെ സുന്ദരമായ പുഞ്ചിരിപോലും അവനെ ഭയപ്പെടുത്തി…
ജീവനും കയ്യിൽപിടിച്ച് ഓടാൻ ആരോ ഉള്ളിൽ നിന്ന് പറയുന്നുണ്ട് പക്ഷെ പിന്നോട്ട് ഓടുന്നതിന് പകരം അവൾക്കടുത്തേക്കാണ് അവൻ നടന്നത്… അലന്റെ മനസിന്റെ നിയന്ത്രണം അവൾ ഏറ്റെടുത്തിരുന്നു…. യാന്ത്രികമായി അവൻ അവൾക്കടുത്തേക്ക് നടന്നു…
ഓർഫനെജിന്റെ വഴിയും കടന്ന് ചെന്നാൽ പള്ളിയാണ്… ദൈവത്തിന്റെ വാസസ്ഥലമെങ്കിലും ചില രാത്രികളിൽ പള്ളിയും ഒരു ഭയപ്പെടുത്തുന്ന സ്ഥലമാണ്… ആ രൂപത്തിന് പിന്നാലെ അവനും നടന്നു… പള്ളിയും കടന്ന് സെമിത്തേരിയുടെ വാതിൽക്കൽ ആ രൂപവും ചെന്ന് നിന്നു … അവൻ അവർക്കടുത്തേക്ക് നടന്നടുത്തു…
“ടാ…..!!” പെട്ടന്ന് ആരോ അവന്റെ തോളിൽ ആഞ്ഞ് തള്ളി….
പെട്ടന്ന് പിന്നിൽ നിന്ന് കിട്ടിയ തള്ളലിൽ മുന്നോട്ട് വീണ അലന് സ്ഥലകാലബോധം വീണുകിട്ടി… അവൻ തിരിഞ്ഞ് നോക്കി.. ബെഞ്ചമിനായിരുന്നു അത്… അലൻ ആകെ നനഞ്ഞിരുന്നു… നല്ല ഇടിവെട്ടും മഴയും… ഇതെപ്പോ തുടങ്ങി… അവൻ ആലോചിച്ചു…
“നീയീ മഴയത്ത് എങ്ങോട്ട് പോവാ…??” ബെഞ്ചമിൻ ചോദിച്ചു…
“ഞാൻ… അത്…!! അവിടെ…!!” സെമിത്തേരിയിലേക്ക് കൈചൂണ്ടി അലൻ നിന്ന് പരുങ്ങി ….
“വായിങ്ങോട്ട് വെറുതെ മഴയത്ത് ഇറങ്ങീട്ട്…!!” അലൻ സെമിതേരിയിലേക്ക് കൈചൂണ്ടിയത് കണ്ടെങ്കിലും അത് ശ്രദ്ധിക്കാതെ ബെഞ്ചമിൻ അലനെ വലിച്ച് അവന്റെ കുടക്കുള്ളിലാക്കി അവന്റെ തോളിൽ കയ്യിട്ട് ചേർത്ത് പിടിച്ചു…
