”ദേ…. ഏട്ടാ…. നിങ്ങടെ മുന്നീ കൂടി എന്തോ ഒന്നു വീട്ടിന്നകത്തേക്ക് ഓടി ക്കയറി പോയി. ”
പരിഭ്രമിച്ച് ഞാൻ “എന്ത്..” എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.
” ഒരു എലിയെപോലെ തോന്നി. നല്ല സ്പീടിലായിരുന്നു ഓട്ടം” എന്ന് അവൾ
ചെരിപ്പ് അഴിച്ചു വെക്കുന്നതിന്നിടയിൽ എനിക്കും തോന്നിയതാണ്.ഒരു നിഴൽ പോലെ…..
വീട്ടിന്നകം അരിച്ചുപെറുക്കിയെങ്കിലും കാണാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല. ഇത്ര പെട്ടന്ന് അപ്രത്യക്ഷമാവാൻ സാധ്യതയില്ലല്ലോ…!?
വാരിവലിച്ചിട്ട സാധനങ്ങൾ മുഴുവൻ പൂർവ്വസ്ഥിതിയിലാക്കാൻ വലിയ ശ്രമം തന്നെ വേണ്ടി വന്നു.
അന്നത്തെ ഉറക്കം ഇടക്കിടെ മുറിഞ്ഞു കൊണ്ടിരുന്നു. എവിടെന്നെക്കയോ, എന്തെല്ലാമോ ശബ്ദങ്ങൾ കേൾക്കുന്നതു പോലെ…. അന്നു പിന്നെ കൂടുതലായൊന്നും ഉറങ്ങാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല.
എല്ലാം ഒരു തോന്നലാണെന്നു കരുതി സമാധാനിക്കാൻ ശ്രമിക്കുമ്പോഴാണ്, രാത്രിയിൽ വീണ്ടും കരളുന്ന ശബ്ദം എന്നെ ഉണർത്തിയത്. എത്രയൊക്കെ നോക്കിയിട്ടും ശബ്ദത്തിൻ്റെ ഉറവിടം കണ്ടെത്താൻ കഴിയാതെ നിരാശയും അസ്വസ്ഥതയാലും എനിക്ക് വീർപ്പുമുട്ടി. ഇനി എന്തു ചെയ്യും?
ചിലപ്പോൾ അടുക്കളയിൽ നിന്ന്, ഹാളിൽ നിന്ന്, സ്റ്റോർ മുറിയിൽ, മക്കളുടെ പഠന മുറിയിൽ നിന്ന്, അല്ലെങ്കിൽ അലമാരക്കകത്തു നിന്നെല്ലാം കരളുന്ന ശബ്ദം ഇടതടവില്ലാതെ കേട്ടുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു. ഉറക്കം കെട്ട ഞാനാകെ വശംകെട്ടു
നേരം പുലരുമ്പോൾ കരണ്ടു നശിപ്പിച്ച രീതിയിൽ വീട്ടുപകരുന്നങ്ങളും, അടുക്കളയിലെ ഭക്ഷണ സാധനങ്ങളും, സ്റ്റോർ മുറിയിൽ ശേഖരിച്ചു വെച്ച ധാന്യങ്ങളും ചിതറിക്കിടന്നിരുന്നു. എന്തിനേറെ കുട്ടികളുടെ സ്ക്കൂൾ ബാഗും പുസ്തകങ്ങളും വരെ കരണ്ടു നശിപ്പിച്ചു. മക്കളുടെ വിഷമം കണ്ടു നിൽക്കാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല.
ഭാര്യയാണതു കണ്ടു പിടിച്ചത്. ജോലി കഴിഞ്ഞു വീട്ടിൽ കയറുന്ന എൻ്റെയൊപ്പമാണ് അവൻ കയറി വരുന്നതത്രേ!. എന്നാൽ എത്രയൊക്കെ ശ്രമിച്ചിട്ടും അവൻ ഒളിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന സ്ഥലം മാത്രം കണ്ടു പിടിക്കാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല. ദിവസങ്ങൾ കഴിയുന്തോറും അവൻ്റെ ആക്രമണവാസന കൂടിക്കൊണ്ടിരുന്നു. വീട്ടിലെ ഒട്ടുമിക്ക തുണികളും, പുസ്തകങ്ങളും, വീട്ടുപകരണങ്ങളും, എന്തിനേറെ ഹാളിലെ ടീവിയും സെറ്റിയും വരെ അവൻ്റെ കരവിരുതിൽ നശിച്ചു.
ഇങ്ങിനെ വിട്ടാൽ പറ്റില്ല. എല്ലാം നശിപ്പിക്കുന്നതിനു മുമ്പ് ഇതിനൊരു അറുതി വരുത്തണമെന്നു തീരുമാനിച്ചു.എലിപ്പത്തായം, എലിവിഷം എന്നിവ പരീക്ഷിച്ചു നോക്കി. എലിക്കെണിയിൽ വീണതായും,വിഷം തിന്നു ചത്തുമലച്ചു കിടക്കുന്നതായും സങ്കൽപ്പിച്ചു. എന്നാൽ എൻ്റെ സങ്കൽപ്പത്തിന്നപ്പുറം എലിപ്പത്തായവും, വിഷവും അനാഥമായി കിടന്നു. അതിന്നടുത്തേക്കൊന്നും അവൻ എത്തി നോക്കിയില്ല. പരാജയബോധം എന്നിൽ ദേഷ്യമായി പരിണമിച്ചു.പൊതുവേ ശാന്തനായ എൻ്റെ മാറ്റത്തിൽ ഭാര്യയും മക്കളും പരിഭ്രമിച്ചുവശായി.
എന്നും രാത്രി ഉറക്കത്തിൽ കരളുന്ന ശബ്ദം ഞെട്ടിയുണർത്തി. ഉറക്കകുറവാൽ എൻ്റെ എല്ലാ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങളും താളം തെറ്റി തുടങ്ങി. പല പ്രധാന കാര്യങ്ങൾ വരെ മറന്നു തുടങ്ങി. അടുക്കും ചിട്ടയും ഇല്ലായ്മയിൽ അരിശം കൊണ്ടു. എന്നാൽ കരളുന്ന ശബ്ദത്തിനു മാത്രം കുറവു വന്നില്ല
മുറിയുടെ ചുമരും തറയും ചേരുന്ന ഭാഗങ്ങളിലൂടെ വീടിൻ്റെ അസ്ഥിവാരത്തിലേക്ക് അവൻ തുരപ്പൻ ജോലി മാറ്റി. ഇങ്ങിനെ വിട്ടാൽ വീടിൻ്റെ നിലനിൽപ്പുപോലും അവതാളമാവും. അവൻ തുരന്നിട്ട മാളങ്ങളിൽ കുപ്പിച്ചില്ലുകൾ നിരത്തി, വിഷദ്രാവക മൊഴിച്ചു. എന്നിട്ടും അവന് യാതൊരു കൂസലുമുണ്ടായില്ല. മറ്റു പല ഭാഗങ്ങളിലും അവൻ തൻ്റെ പ്രവൃത്തി തുടർന്നു കൊണ്ടേയിരുന്നു. മുറിയിൽ നിന്നു മണ്ണു മാറ്റിയും,പൊത്തുകളടച്ചും ഞങ്ങൾ തളർന്നു. അവൻ മാത്രം തളർച്ചയില്ലാതെ അനുസ്യൂതം പ്രവർത്തി തുടർന്നുകൊണ്ടേയിരിക്കുന്നു.
എൻ്റെ രാത്രികൾ മിക്കവാറും ശിവരാത്രികളായി. ഉറങ്ങാതെ എൻ്റെ കൺപോളകൾ തടിച്ചു. കണ്ണുകൾ ചുവന്നു. പണി സ്ഥലത്തും എൻ്റെ പ്രവർത്തികൾ താളം തെറ്റി.മേലധികാരിയുടെ താക്കീതിൻ്റെ എണ്ണം കൂടി. ഇനിയെന്താണു രക്ഷ?.
ശക്തമായി കരളുന്ന ശബ്ദം കേട്ടാണ് ഉണർന്നത് .ഇനിയും ഇതിങ്ങിനെ തുടരാൻ വിട്ടാൽ ഞാനും കുടുബവും അധികം വൈകാതെ………
നിരന്തരമായി കരളുന്ന ശബ്ദം കൂടി വന്നു. വേഗതയിൽ മിടിക്കുന്ന ഹൃദയവുമായി ഞാൻ ചെവിയോർത്തു.വീടിൻ്റെ പല ഭാഗത്തുനിന്നായി ശബ്ദങ്ങൾ കേട്ടു തുടങ്ങി.ഞാൻ പതുക്കെ എഴുന്നേറ്റിരുന്നു. ശബ്ദങ്ങൾ ക്രമാതീതമായി വർദ്ധിക്കുകയാണ്. തൻ്റെ കർണ്ണ പടത്തിലിരുന്നു മാന്തുന്നതായി തോന്നി. ഞാൻ കാതുകൾ കൈകളാൽ അടച്ചുപിടിച്ചു. പക്ഷേ ശബ്ദങ്ങൾ നിന്നില്ല. അവ കർണ്ണപടത്തിന്നപ്പുറം, സിരകളിലൂടെ എൻ്റെ ശിരസ്സിലേക്ക് പ്രവേശിക്കുന്നതായി തോന്നി. മസ്തിഷ്ക്കം കരളുന്ന വേദന വളരെയധികം അസഹനീയമായിരുന്നു.എൻ്റെ തലക്കകത്ത് എന്തോ ഓടുന്ന പോലെ. സഹിക്കവയ്യാതെ അലറിക്കൊണ്ട് ഞാൻ പുറത്തെ ഇരുട്ടിലേക്ക് ഇറങ്ങിയോടി.
അർദ്ധബോധാവസ്ഥയിൽ ആശുപത്രി കിടക്കയിൽ കിടക്കുമ്പോൾ ഭാര്യ എൻ്റെ ചെവിയിൽ അടക്കം പറഞ്ഞു.
“എട്ടാ ഇനി പേടിക്കേണ്ട. നിങ്ങൾക്കു പിന്നാലെ ഒരു നിഴൽ ഓടി മറയുന്നതു ഞാൻ കണ്ടു. ഒരു പെരുച്ചാഴിയുടെ നിഴൽ രൂപം.”
ഇനിയൊന്നും ഓർക്കാനിഷ്ടപ്പെടാതെ മുകളിൽ തിരിയുന്ന ഫാനിലേക്ക് ഞാൻ നോക്കി. പിന്നെ പതിയെ മയക്കത്തിലാണ്ടു.
