“എന്റെ മകള്‍ ആയിരിക്കും”ഓട്ടത്തിനിടയില്‍ മുത്തശ്ശി പറഞ്ഞത് സത്യമായിരുന്നു
കാറില്‍ നിന്നും വെളുത്തു സുന്ദരിയായ മോഡേണ്‍ വേഷധാരി ഇറങ്ങി.മുത്തശ്ശിയുടെ മുഖത്ത് സന്തോഷം ഇരട്ടിച്ചു.
“എന്റെ മോളെ, കല്യാണി” എന്നു നീട്ടി വിളിച്ചു ശാരദമുത്തശ്ശി മകളുടെ അടുത്തേക്ക് ചെന്നു.
അമ്മയെ ഗൗനിക്കാതെ അവള്‍ ഡ്രൈവറോട് പറഞ്ഞു, “വണ്ടി തിരിച്ചു ഇട്ടേക്കു, ഞാന്‍ ഉടനേയെത്താം”
“എന്തിനാ ഇങ്ങനെ ഓടി നടക്കുന്നത്? വീണു വല്ലതും പറ്റിയാല്‍ ആശുപത്രിയില്‍ പോകുന്നതിനും പണം കൊടുക്കണ്ടേ ? നടന്നു പോകുന്നതിനിടയിൽ ശാസനാസ്വരത്തില്‍ അവള്‍ അമ്മയോട് ചോദിച്ചു.
മകളുടെ വാക്കുകള്‍ ശ്രദ്ധിക്കാതെ മുത്തശ്ശി ചോദിച്ചു, “മോളെ, രാമചന്ദ്രനും മക്കളും വന്നില്ലേ, അവരെ ഒക്കെ കണ്ടിട്ടെത്ര നാളായി ?”
“അവര്‍ ഇങ്ങോട്ടു വന്നില്ല.ഇന്നലെ രാവിലത്തെ ഫ്ലൈറ്റില്‍ ആണ് വന്നത്. നൂറു കൂട്ടം പണികള്‍ കിടക്കുന്നു അതിനിടയ്ക്കാണ്‌ ഞാന്‍ ഇങ്ങോട്ട് ഓടി വന്നത്”.ശാരദമുത്തശ്ശിയുടെ ചോദ്യം അത്ര രസിക്കാത്ത മട്ടില്‍ മകള്‍ പറഞ്ഞു.
ശാന്തിനികേതന്റെ ചുമതല വഹിക്കുന്ന കന്യാസ്ത്രീ അപ്പോഴേക്കും മുറ്റത്തെത്തി.
“എന്താ ? കല്യാണി അവിടെ നിന്നത്, വാ അകത്തിരിക്കാം”
“തിടുക്കമുണ്ട്, ഒത്തിരി ജോലി ഉണ്ട്. ഒരു മാസത്തെ അവധിയെ ഉള്ളു. അതിനാല്‍ പോകണം”വിസിറ്റിംഗ് റൂമിലെ കസേരയില്‍ ഇരിക്കവേ കല്യാണി പറഞ്ഞു.
കല്യാണി ഇപ്പോള്‍ വിളിക്കുന്നത്‌ കുറവാണല്ലോ ശാരദക്ക്‌ നല്ല വിഷമം ഉണ്ട് കേട്ടോ, കന്യാസ്ത്രീ പറഞ്ഞു.
അങ്ങനെ വിഷമിക്കണ്ട കാര്യം ഉണ്ടോ? എപ്പോളും വിളിക്കാന്‍ കഴിയുമോ? അമ്മ അതൊക്കെ മനസ്സിലാക്കണം. അമ്മക്കു എല്ലാ സന്തോഷവും ഉണ്ടാകനല്ലേ ഇവിടെ ആക്കിയത്.
കല്യാണി പറഞ്ഞപ്പോള്‍ ശാരദ മുത്തശ്ശി നേരിയതിന്റെ തുമ്പ് എടുത്തു കണ്ണ് തുടച്ചു.
“അമ്മയോട് ഞങ്ങൾക്ക് സ്നേഹം ഉണ്ട് പക്ഷെ അവിടെ കൊണ്ട് പോകാന്‍ പറ്റുമോ.അവിടെ എല്ലാവരും വലിയ സ്റ്റേറ്റസ് ഉള്ളവരാണ്‌.അമ്മയ്ക്ക് ഇംഗ്ലീഷും അറിയില്ലല്ലോ അവരൊക്കെ വന്നു എന്തെങ്കിലും ചോദിച്ചാല്‍ ഞങ്ങൾക്കല്ലേ അതിന്റെ മോശം”
കല്യാണി പറഞ്ഞു പൂർത്തീകരിക്കും മുൻപേ മുത്തശ്ശി ഇടയ്ക്കു കയറി സിസ്റ്ററേ കുഞ്ഞിനോട് അങ്ങനെ ഒന്നും ചോദിക്കല്ലേ അവൾക്കതു വിഷമം ആകും.അവള്‍ എനിക്ക് വേണ്ടിയല്ലേ അവിടെ കഷ്ടപ്പെടുന്നത്.എന്നെ ഇവിടെ സിസ്റ്ററിന്റെ കൈയ്യിലല്ലേ അവള്‍ ഏൽപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. പിന്നെ എന്ത് വിഷമം ആണ്.
