മാതു വല്യമ്മയുടെ മകൻ മിലിട്ടറിയിലാണ്. അങ്ങ് ദൂരെ , ഇന്ത്യയുടെ ഭൂപടം വരയ്ക്കുമ്പോൾ കാണാവുന്ന ജമ്മുവിൽ തന്നെ. വർഷങ്ങളായിട്ട് അവിടെ ആയതിനാൽ , ഇടയ്ക്കിടെ മകൻ നാട്ടിൽ വരുമ്പോൾ മാതു വല്യമ്മക്ക് വല്യേ പത്രാസാണ്. മകൻ വന്നാൽ പോകുന്നതുവരെയുള്ള ദിനങ്ങൾ മാതുവല്യമ്മ പുറത്തിറങ്ങാതെ മകന് കാവലിരിക്കും. പട്ടാളത്തിൽ ഇരുന്നു മകൻ രാജ്യത്തിനു കാവലിരിക്കുമ്പോൾ നാട്ടിൽ വന്നാൽ സ്വസ്ഥമായി വീട്ടിലിരിക്കുന്ന മകന് കാവൽ നില്ക്കാൻ താൻ തന്നെ വേണ്ടേ എന്നാണ് മാതുവല്യമ്മയുടെ ചോദ്യം. അതിന്റെ ഒരു കിടപ്പുവശം വെച്ച് നോക്കുമ്പോൾ കുറ്റം പറയാനും വയ്യ. പക്ഷെ അതൊക്കെയായാലും ശരി മകൻ വന്നു കഴിഞ്ഞാൽ അവൻ പുറത്തിറങ്ങി നടന്നു തുടങ്ങിയാൽ എന്തിനും ഏതിനും ഒപ്പം മാതു വല്യമ്മയും ഉണ്ടാകും. നാട്ടിലുള്ള പെമ്പിള്ളാരെ മകൻ നോക്കിയാലോ അതോ മകനെ പെമ്പിള്ളാരു കടത്തികൊണ്ടുപോയാലോ എന്നൊരു പേടിയുള്ളതുകൊണ്ടാണെന്നു തോന്നുന്നു മകന് പിന്നാലെ ഒരു കാവൽക്കാരനെ പോലെ തലയുയർത്തിപ്പിടിച്ചു എപ്പോഴും മാതുവല്യമ്മ നടക്കുന്നത്. കൊറോണക്കാലത്ത് ലീവിൽ വന്ന് അമ്മയും മകനും ഇടവഴിയിലൂടെ നടക്കും നേരം വേലിക്കൽ നിന്ന് , പറന്നു പോകുന്ന കാക്കയോട് പോലും വിശേഷം ചോദിക്കുന്ന ജാനുവമ്മ ചോദിച്ചു:
“എന്താ മോനെ, അവിടത്തെ വിശേഷം. അവിടെ കൊറോണയൊക്കെ ഉണ്ടോ..” മറുപടി പറഞ്ഞത് മാതുവമ്മയാണ്:
“എവിടെ കൊറോണയുണ്ടെങ്കിലും എന്താ…ന്റെ മോൻ മേജറാ …അവന്യൊന്നും ഒരു കൊറോണയും തൊടില്ല…”
ജാനുവമ്മയും പട്ടാളക്കാരൻ മാതുവമ്മയുടെ മകനും കുറച്ചുനേരം പരസ്പരം നോക്കി നിന്നു. ഇതൊന്നും കൂസാതെ മാതുവമ്മ മുന്നോട്ടു തന്നെ നടന്നു.
2. പാർപ്പിടം
ആൾക്കാർ ആർപ്പുവിളിക്കുന്നുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. കയ്യടിക്കുന്നുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. അക്ഷമരായി സമയചാലകത്തിൽ നോക്കുന്നുന്നുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ചിലർ പിറുപിറുത്തു.
“ഇനി ഉണ്ടാവില്ലേ.. അവസാനനിമിഷം എന്തെങ്കിലും വിധിയും കൊണ്ടു വരുമോ. വരുമായിരിക്കും. എല്ലാം അങ്ങനെയല്ലേ പതിവ്.. ”
അത് കേട്ട ചിലർ നിരാശയിൽ അമറി. ഉത്സവപ്പറമ്പിൽ വെടിക്കെട്ട്‌ കാണാൻ നിൽക്കുന്നതാണ് എനിക്ക് ഓർമ വന്നത്. ഞാൻ മുന്നോട്ട് നടന്നു. ടി വി പ്രദർശനയിടങ്ങളിൽ തിരക്കിനു കുറവില്ല. ലോകകപ്പിൽ അർജന്റീന ബ്രസീൽ മത്സരം കാണാൻ നിൽക്കുന്ന പോലെ. അല്പം കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ വലിയ ശബ്ദത്തിൽ അത് ഉണ്ടായി. കാത്തിരുന്നു കണ്ടവർ ആർപ്പുവിളിച്ചുന്മാദിച്ചു . തിരക്കിൽ ഞാൻ ഏകാകിയായി നടന്നു.
രാത്രി മനസമാധാനത്തോടെ ഒന്ന് തലചായ്ച്ചുറങ്ങാൻ അതിൽ ഒരു മുറി എനിക്ക് തന്നിരുന്നെങ്കിൽ… കാരണം അമ്പതു വർഷം ജീവിച്ചിരുന്നിട്ടും സ്വന്തമായി ഒരു വീടോ കൂടോ ഒരു സെൻറ് സ്ഥലമോ ഇല്ലാതെ ബസ് സ്റ്റാൻഡിലും കടത്തിണ്ണയിലും റെയിൽവേ സ്റ്റേഷനിലും മുറിഞ്ഞുവീഴുന്ന ഉറക്കരാത്രികളുടെ കൂടപ്പിറപ്പായിരുന്നു ഞാൻ. ആ എന്നെയെങ്കിലും നിങ്ങൾ ഒന്നോർത്തിരുന്നെങ്കിൽ…
